Hi Guys
Just a quick question, How susceptible is the N97 screen too damage? Im intending to remove the protective film that came with the phone as its getting in a bad state now. Also whats the chances of the included stylus marking the screen?

check this out and then ask yourself if this is durable or not so much.... i have had mine for three weeks not one scratch nothing besides the usual firmware immaturity headaches. the phone has great battery life, is durable. now that accu weather widget is in ovi store my life is much better and it will only continue with the firmware updates.

For what it is worth, you can install Fring. It works ok and is a back-end into Skype.

I keep seeing people saying no Skype client. I'm running Skype Lite Mobile on my N97 without any problems. I've upgraded to the newest firmware and downloaded Skype from here:

Check out this link for a stress test of the phone to abuse:
It's pretty hard core stuff.
Then there is the drop test:

I liked the supplied, but temporary, screen protector. I finally took it off after a week, when I decided I was going to keep it.
I loved the feel of the screen with the protector on, but hated the feel of the "naked" screen. It felt soft and vulnerable. I look after my stuff, in general, I always fit screen protectors, buy small cheap cases, etc (mostly from China, via eBay - excellent service). Even being careful with the naked screen for a day, I was worried about damage so I re-fitted the temporay one. It looked awful.
I then bought this screen protector from eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&it
If you do decide to buy this, let me know, and I'll give you a couple of tips for fitting it. It's fiddly. I ruined one (of the 2 supplied) before I got the 2nd one fitted well. The problem is, that they are just too well made, precision-wise.
They are easily cleaned, make the screen feel more robust, and are invisible, when fitted correctly.

Sort of like regular Skype. You know, the one with Skype Out, Skype 2 Go, i.e.:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/features/
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/getconnected/
So how is this not Skype at all?
Not to mention the original poster has yet to say which version he is using on his phone as Skype Lite is not supported anywhere for TS screens. These are basically Java versions that for the most part are not necessarily compatible but the .jar file will install.

Hey Britz.
Good choice. These ones I linked to are a tenth of the price of the others, and are custom made to fit the N97, edge to edge, top to bottom. The others are a generic rectangular shape.
Thats why this one is slightly tricky to fit.
It's such a precision fit, that, as it is, it's impossible to fit by hand. You can see from the picture in the link, that it covers the whole surface, with small cutouts as shown.
Note that, when you come to cut it it's best to cut the protector with a scalpel, or a very sharp craft knife. Scissors will cause the edge to crumple a little and you'll get a bubble.
You start fitting it at the top end, where the sensor, and the webcam are. There are tabs where you peel back a little of the bottom layer, then stick down a little, and so on (there are instructions for this). The problem is, that by the time you get to the bottom end, there is no chance of matching the cutout for the silver "Menu" button, to the button itself. Also, if you are even 0.5 mm out, the bottom end will go over the edge, and it will create a bubble you will not get rid off. The same applies to the small indent on the right edge of the screen, with "Nokia" printed on it. The protector is too perfect a fit.
The solution is to cut about 2-3 mm off the bottom end. Then cut round the silver Menu button, from side edge to bottom edge, and cut a sliver round the Nokia indent (maybe 1 mm will be enough).
Do this before you remove either of the 2 outer protective layers (with the tabs on). Then follow the instructions, starting from the top.
When it's in place, you won't see that you've cut these places - it's invisible.
Actually it's like fitting wallpaper, you just have to take your time, and make sure you line up one edge - the other edge will automatically follow.
I liked it so much, I bought another pair. Well, the price istoo good to miss.
The protector itself is slightly stiff, so it's easy to hold. I've bought some of the other generic protectors in the past, for my N95, and my Archos Multimedia Player, and I've thrown most of them away. I promise these are top quality and unbeatable value.

From skypes own website
"Local rate Skype-to-Skype calls
With Skype on your mobile, you’ll always know when your friends are online and you can call them for the cost of a local call (or use your inclusive minutes from your mobile plan). Calling with Skype is only available in Australia, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro & Sao Paulo), Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, New Zealand, Romania, Poland, Sweden, the United States and the UK.
Call Skype contacts
The standard cost of a local or national call on your mobile (or via your inclusive minutes)."
Oooh great stuff, I might as well just make a normal call then! Skype lite is complete rubbish..i want FREE skype to skype calls not to be charged for them! This is where the N97 version of skype was supposed to come in and give us a proper client.
