Well, can you check what the recognized file types are? I'm betting they are not MP3 files. I cannot get mine to recognize any MP3s, but when I go to them with the file manager, they are there and I can play them!
Hopefully Nokia has addressed this in the music player update that is supposed to be included with the firmware update scheduled to be released soon. I have my fingers crossed, because I sold my N95 that had all this same music in it AND it recognized it and played it correctly, and that was sync'ed with the Nokia Multimedia Sync Tool for the Mac!
We'll see what happens. If not, I'm going to figure out how to contact them directly and throw a FIT.

I've upgraded my N97 to v20, it will replace the default 101ffcd2.txt file under c:\private\10202be9\
You will need to re-edit the txt file and insert the description of the path info for your mp3 files.
It's not a bug or firmware issue, so before you throw a fit, rather work around the problem.

I never even did this to mine w/ v12, as I have just suffered through it. The folks at the Nokia store in Chicago were completely baffled when I showed them what is happening, and told me to wait for the v20.
However, since v20 still doesn't do it, they also told me that if it doesn't fix it to bring it in and they would attempt to get it repaired under warranty. If Nokia cannot fix it correctly without me digging and they cannot explain it, then I have grounds to return it and I'll simply obtain another N95 or I'll switch to iPhone (reluctantly). I love my Nokia phones, but this is simply ridiculous.
Thanks for the insight!

They'll fix it - but i doubt there is another firmware coming out in 2009 based on the number of years experience I've had dealing with Nokia updates.
Yah its a bad bug - everyone has problems with it, they really need to fix it ASAP, but its just not likley to happen anytime soon. I would be SHOCKED if there was a patch between now and Christmas.
I just added 200 songs - and toasted my mass storage with my messages mails etc....love it!

Rasmus--
Does this mean you did what Madcow has done in order to be able to play MP3 files?
And, what do you mean "toasted my mass storage with messages mails etc?" Does that mean we can now direct our message storage to mass storage rather than C:?
Thanks!

I've currently got a bug report open with Nokia... I would say if more people reported this to their support they might get their finger out.
I never had an issue with V12... But V20 has completely screwed up my music player. Even from a hard reset, copy 2 albums over, it can't keep track of what I have. The index it creates is just knackered, and it appears when that is screwed up, the volume control for the music playback is screwed up too! (Go figure!).
What I can understand is how there are people who aren't seeing this problem?

I just upgraded my N97's firmware to v21.0.045 via NSU. It will clear your music gallery's database back to factory default setting. You just need to edit the config file to describe the path to the phone so it will speed up the process of adding music files into the gallery.

How do you do that?

Well I obviously have a different phone and music player !! 3000 tracks, when listening to an Album, pressing back takes me to the list of tracks, pressing back again takes me to choice of albums , artists, all songs etc, and I have Album art attached to all my music. Searching for a track can take a while if you have a lot of music on the phone, and refresh can take a while, but generally I am quite happy with the music player. But that's just me, there are many aspects of the phone that I find much more annoying than the Music Player ![]()
