Considering the release of N97 Mini tomorrow (23/10/2009) can we expect the release of the v2.0 for the N97 as well. The N97 mini is supposed to be release with this firmware installed.
However, the BIG question to ask is 'will it'? The phone must have been in the back of shops for some days so are they also going to be 'beta testers' of the new firware and basically mirror some peoples N97 experience.
Intrested to hear your thoughts.

The N97mini won't be on sale tomorrow, the date was always subject to change which the source added after giving the 23rd.
The release date of the mini has no bearing on the release date for v20 for the N97. Both will be released as and when they are individually ready.

Mainstream media are getting on the case now: -

How Nokia put its biggest fans' loyalty on the lineAs Nokia struggles in the high-end phone market, its approach to updates is turning off some of its keenest UK customers
I fear it's too late for Nokia now. Damage is done. They keep getting us to beta test the phones, and now phone shops are advising people not to early adopt. if nobody early adopts, who will they get to do their testing?

Hi all,
Well, I would like to comment here on the current situation of the N97, N97 mini, & N900. After all the noise before the launch of the N97 since it was supposed to be the flagship of Nokia that would make the company gain market share, increase profit, & thus show better results, other companies, like Apple, Samsung, BlackBerry, & HTC, launched successful products, at least to them. So Nokia decided to speed up the production & launch of N97 even though it was immature both in software & even hardware. Let's get it straight, how come a flagship have only 128MB RAM, scratched camera lens, low C: memory, & lots of big software bugs, most of which are not solved until today. Simply put, they wanted the numbers... $$$$ not the long term relationship with us, loyal Nokia fans.
Then, when we, loyal customers of Nokia, started to complain about the various & numerous things of N97, there came the Nokia World as a relief to them where they promoted the N97 mini & the surprise of N900 that most of us, owners of N97, felt that we were deceived to buy the N97 at a premium price while there is N900 that has More RAM, speedier CPU, more stable software at a relatively close price. Then, simply came the idea of V20 firmware of N97 to cool things down & promise us that we are not deceived. Is that right?
Sorry if I'm speaking a lot, but it relieves me to say, guys, they promised the firmware to be launched during October. Honestly I doubt it. They promised the release of N97 mini on Oct 23, then changed their minds.I really don't know what's going on with Nokia. It's like a giant fighting for survival with no direction... Since I work in Marketing, particularly marketing innovative products for companies, like Nokia, Dell, & others. I'm really down to Earth to say: I do not mind to wait for the new V20 firmware to come up anytime, although I do not expect much of it. But it has to. Let's be honest, what they promoted about V20, is simply what must be installed on the device as a basic stuff that many other devices have... Come on, Kinetic scrolling, Media Arts, better memory utilization,... etc. etc... These things are basic & must have been installed at the 1st place, right?
Now the damage is done! What I wish & I hope that Nokia to understand is they need to make the V20 bug free, stable, & most importantly, make our lives easier when using & enjoying the N97. Other than this, I would say, it would be the beginning of the end of Nokia. And I would be really sad if this happens.
For now, let's wait & see. I'd like to leave all of us with the following fact:
"Research shows that the mostfrustrating part of waiting is not knowing how long the wait will be!"
Sorry again for this, but I honestly wanted to speak up & share my feeling & taught..

I suspect that's what'll cause the delay in releasing v20. Given the negative feedback following previous buggy releases, regardless of when the N97 Mini is released, it's in their interest to test v20 for the N97 properly rather than bow to pressure to get it out ASAP (which seems to be what happened on previous 'fixes').
If they'd just keep their userbase in the loop regarding testing progress, they'd get much less grief in the long run.
It'll be interesting to see the reaction from the suckers users when the N900 is released, and whether a Linux implementation rather than a Symbian implementation makes a difference.
I'd also be interested to know what extra functionality is demanded by the UK (mentioned in the article to which you linked, Dave) over and above other European countries, which then needs to be tested so extensively following a release to the rest of the world.
Anyone have any more information on that?
