I set up GMail on my N97. I enabled e-mail retrieval and chose "every 5 minutes" as retrieval interval. However, new e-mails sent to my GMail account don't appear on my N97 unless I manually connect to mailbox each time.

How could I receive e-mails sent to my GMail account automatically on my N97?

When in gmail, goto Options>e-mail settings>Automatic retrieval>email retrievel, make sure this is set to Enabled.

I had already set it to Enabled during the configuration, but it didn't work.  I still cannot receive the emails sent to my GMail account automatically.  Is there anything else I could try?

If you have more than one email account set mailbox in use to Gmail, or try this

carman, I only have one Gmail account set up on my N97, and I have already set the mailbox in use to Gmail.

I can login manually to GMail, via the web, to access my emails there, but I prefer if I can receive alerts or headers on my N97 automatically, when someone sends an email to my GMail account.  So, I won't miss an urgent email. 

My old phone (not a Nokia) used to deliver a portion of the email sent to my GMail account within seconds, with an option to retrieve the entire email. What should I do to have something similar with my N97 without having to manually login to GMail several times a day to check for myself?

Goto Mesaging>Options>Settings>Email>Mailboxes>Gmail>Automatic retrieval>Email retrieval, set this to emabled and then set the frequency you require.  Note this setting could affect battery life and data costs.

Just to be clear - carman asked if you have other email accounts set up on your phone, not if you have other Gmail accounts. You may have 3 other hotmail accounts for all we know.

The point being that you can add loads of email accounts to your phone, but you can only set up a maximum of 2 of them for automatic retrieval.

@carman / @2bd - I only have one email account set up on my phone. It is the only one set up for automatic retrieval.
