N97 Freezes frequently

Hi there,

I don't know if you guys get this problem too or not, but my N97 freezes quite frequently, like at least one a week! The freeze is not always the same. Sometimes the entire phone is frozen, sometimes only certain keys are frozen, sometimes certain touch keys are frozen, sometimes everything is fine, I just cannot turn it on and off (the on/off button on the top is frozen :smileytongue:). So I have to manually remove the battery at least once a week!

Why?

Thanks in advance!

Re: N97 Freezes frequently

hope all is well... well unfortunately it is a common issue... it is being worked on and will be solved with the new major firmware 2 coming out sooner than later...

which firmware do you have currently?

Re: N97 Freezes frequently

Have you installed apps in your mobile? If yes, maybe this cause problems to your mobile. Some mobile phones are sensitive to apps.Uninstall all the applications of your phone. If it works and the problem/problems stopped, don't install again any app (untill you update your firmware) because maybe you will face the same, or similar problems.

You're in good company...I'm forced to do this about every other day on average. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why. Personally I have come to believe that it may have something to do with the lack of RAM, which makes me doubt that any firmware upgrade will improve it. You may find that shutting applications down before opening another, as opposed to multitasking, may help.

Re: N97 Freezes frequently

One way you could try is to reinstall the firmware and see where that goes or you could take to a care centre where they can do a proper firmware installation.

Re: N97 Freezes frequently

try reinstalling firmware. make sure you have back up and then right after you reinstall

firmware do option number two from the list below this might help your issue.

With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!

NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work. 1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 123452. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.

If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

Re: N97 Freezes frequently

Best way to fix the freezing-ness of this N97 is to turn this thing off when it happen for once and for all is to put the phone N97 down on a table and find your self a snack and a HAMMER, open your snack  and take a bite, Now this is where the fix begin, hold the hammer above the N97 and then lift it up about 0.5metre then swing it ontop of the N97. Voila!! Once you've done so, your N97 is now officially turned off. :smileyvery-happy:

Be warned, it will only worked once, as you perminantly put it to off mode.

All the best, good luck
