@blackbagz
The unbranded handsets in the UK have had their own difficulties with firmware updates. The devices originally shipped with firmware 10.x and shortly after release, Nokia announced 'worldwide availability' of the v11.x firmware (also known as 1.1) but the UK unbranded handsets had to wait about 3 weeks to get it. When the 1.2 update came (the 12.x series) we had to wait even longer, 5 or 6 weeks I guess.
As far as I can tell, v12.x was really a set of stability fixes as I haven't seen or heard of anything new feature-wise in this release. I can tell my phone is a little more responsive than on the previous version and again, the rotational changes are snappier. The bug with the lock/backlight seem to have been banished too.
Next month's update is set to bring further performance enhancements, new widgets, supposedly transition effects if the keynote from NW09 is to be believed, along with a totally rewritten memory allocation system that frees up approximately 20-25MB of memory on the C: drive. I just hope Nokia have thoroughly tested it before releasing it to the masses.
If v12.x is anything to go by, I for one won't be expecting it soon after release for my unbranded handset. And believe me, I sooooo want Nokia to prove me wrong!

You can't install .024, that is just not possible once you have .026.
You have two options for getting your wireless back:
1. Restore your settings backup, that will make the wireless option and destinations return.
2. If you didn't make a backup you will have to reset the phone. Just like a phone number dial *#7370# that code will delete all of your data, including any apps that you've installed.

Blackbagz, do yourself a massive favour. Search for 'Nigel Coldwell' on google and take his advice.
I did about 6 weeks ago and you dont see me winging anywhere on any forum. No Need, the N97 is a great phone and I dissagree with everyone on this forum.
Have alook, be brave enough to take the advice and get your life back !!!

If your N97 is not Product Code:
0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black - it might as well be a cheap chinese copy.
Search 'Nigel Coldwell' in google and read. and Yes it DOES WORK EVERYTIME !!!
If I dont see 1000 kudos from this post - I give up with you guys ! ! !

Hi All,
Successfully updated to 26 yipee.
Deleted NSU from my laptop XP and re-downloaded, worked straight away and only took ten min's.
Didn't need to restore, just battery-off-reboot and all good.
The down-side?
Well, the only real problem I had was poor reception and rubbish GPS, was kinda hoping Nokia would up the power to the antenna but, alas, NO.
So I have, probably, the best bit of kit out there except I can't really use it as a phone at home, leave the house and full signal, come back in and 1 bar (my old 5800 would work in the same location inside with 3-4 bars).
It's such a shame but there you go, great device though.
Complained to Vodafone and all they could offer me was a home booster that connects to my broadband for just £160.00! I declined as I don't see why I should have to shell out more money.
Thanks for all the suggestions on here guys, and good to see that it's not just used for whinging (although I've done a bit but that's just frustration creeping through).

Cheers for this George!

I had the exact same problem today, when searching it would say that it was gone so i did the following,
Closed all unused programs including AV and firewall using "Game booster"
Plugged laptop in via Ethernet and not WIFI
Ran OVI under Admin
Un installed the new software updater and installed the old version
Updated the version when prompted
Next time i used it there was an update available and it ran through it smoothly
Might help....might not

I am on 0585162 and still cannot update via either SW update/FOTA/NSU or Ovi Beta. Sigh. Anyone got any thoughts?
I've tried using two different pc's too, one on vista and one on Windows 7.

First of all, thanks for your post. and yes i did check out the website but decided to decline to unbrand my handset.
It's a shame you had to follow up your post about comments of people winging. i'm sure most people will agree that whilst you've been successful debranding your handset to get the update, there are others out there that don't think that route is appropriate, but also they, just like you, have the right to post their opinions. Glad that you have the ability to disagree - that's your right. You don't see any posters coming on here and accusing you of narrow mindedness in your post, for example.
BOT. There was a previous poster on here that may have hit the a potential solution, for those that do not want to go the debranded route. when i was launching the NSU, it was indeed on a vista pc. However i have an xp laptop with a nokia suite that was not updated. So i ran the NSU on that laptop and guess what, it showed 12.0.0.26!!
Unfortunately i ran into a minor setback. whilst doing the upgrade, my phone decided to die mid upgrading. the phone wouldn't switch back on. i had to send it back to my service provider (in the uk i got my phone via dialaphone) for repairs. and in the space of a week, i got it back up and running along with the latest firmware version.
So i got there in the end!
Now about this kinetic scrolling......![]()
