Hey ya all, I got my N97 3 weeks ago and it was a kinda big upgrade to me since i`m using 7610 previously. I'm already a 8 years Nokia user including models like 8850, 8910 and also 8810.
Since 7610 is the last multimedia phone i`m using, I just drag and drop my music files into my memory card (simple and easy) not realizing that N97 is already in another world.
So the first day, i did the same thing, drag and drop my musics into my mass memory in the MUSIC folder if i`m not mistaken. I have categorised the songs by singer name in different folder but the file itself doesnt have a standard naming convention. Here is where my disappointment comes. It all went into a mess when i view using my N97.
I then access my mass memory using PC and delete all the songs I have dragged in earlier. The problem arised when I view it on my N97. It auto created many album name, singers name even I have deleted the physical file earlier using PC.
Now when I open them in my N97, or even delete, It prompts file corrupted. I cant do anything with it. Please help. Anyway I can clean up this mess?

First of all connect the phone in the Mass Storage mode if the files are on the 32GB inbuilt hard disk. Then delete them if they exist through My Computer.
If you had put them on a memory card, then get it out of the phone and get rid of the files from your PC. Then, reinsert the card.
Once you makie sure that the files are indeed not present anymore on your device, refresh your music library. Menu->Music->Music Library->Refresh library.
Once you do this, the phone will work for sometime and then the list of non-existing albums would have gone.
If you want to store songs on to the device, Either
1. Connect the phone in the Mass Storage Mode and copy the files you want to some place. The Music Player would list them sorted with respect to Artist, Album etc.
2. Connect the phone in Media Transfer Mode and transfer your favourite songs from the media player library to your phone..
3. Connect the phone in PC Suite Mode and use Nokia Music (comes with the N97 CD) to get the job done.
If you still experience problems, let me know. I'd be only too happy to help. I have used the N97 for 3 weeks now and I now do not have any significant problem with it.

If music database is corrupted, delete it.
Connect to PC in mass storage mode, check show hidden files in Windows explorer. Open Private folder in mass memory and delete the contents of these folders, don't delete the folders:
10281e17 folder - delete [101ffc31]mpxv2_2 , [101ffc31]pcv6_1, and [102830AB]thumbnail_v2
101ffca9 folder - delete harvesterdbv9_2
(That's how they appear on my N97 anyway).
When you open music player it'll rebuild database, you may need to refresh.

Hi
I copied several songs into one of the directory (to Mass Storage Device of N97) and wanted to refresh the library. I have done this operation once/twice and I was able to refresh the library. But now, I am not getting the option of refresh the library at all. What is wrong any idea. I used to get refresh library option after opening the "Music Library"-->Options->Refrsh Library. Any idea what is wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Hi :
Thanks for your post!!! it was really useful. I followed the procedure and it refreshed perfectly with 40 songs in the library but when I transferred 600 or 1000 songs , using mass storage mode, at some point the music library stopped refreshing ( 450 files added or 267 added ) sometimes it did not refresh completely and I had to stop it manually by pressing the end button.
I checked the "harvesterdbv9_2" file and amazingly it contains the register of all the songs in the music library ( I take it that it creates itself as the refreshing process goes on). I have 2000 songs or so.
Do you think I am having problems because of the number of songs I have or maybe I need to leave it refreshing overnight? or maybe re-install the v20 firmware. I have tried soft and hard reset and everything.
I hope you can help me or somebody over there.
Very grateful for your replies or advice.
