Hi All
I have this annoying experience with N97 on active touchscreen during calls.
Upon receiving call, I unlock the phone and press "Answer" to answer call.
And my ear touches the top right corner of the screen which is active, and this activates the clock.
So after calls, the clock is always on the screen, and I have to Exit the clock.
I know that I have the option of locking the screen using Option/Lock, however, this is impractical as we go straight away to answer call. People do not select "Anwser", then let the caller waits while we select Option and Lock Screen. Ths norm is select "Answer" and talk to the caller, then suffer the active touchscreen syndrome (touching the clock or one of the active icons).
Is there a way to set settings to automatically lock touchscreen during call (without the need to use the slider switch), and unlock it by using slider or Menu key?
Please advise, thank you.

There is a proximity sensor in top left corner of the display (looks like camera lens) and it will disable the touchscreen if
it's working right.
Second thing is about anwering the call when sceen is locked. Why not use the left to right swipe of the green arrow in the display when the phone is ringing. This will answer the call and when call ends it returns to locked state.

The proximity sensor works with direct line of sight + short range. So if the phone (and proximity sensor) moves backward of the ear, it is no longer able to lock the screen, and during this time the ear touches the top right corner of the screen and activate the clock. With normal ear size, the chance of proximity sensor not locking the screen is high, unless the person has very large ear that blocks the proximity sensor in whatever phone position, haha...
So an internal setting will be needed ![]()
Anyone know how to set screen lock automatically during call?

If you read the previous post properly, you will see the answer already straight in front of you.
Don't unlock, just swipe.

Upon answering call, any single swipe (from left to right) on the touchscreen automatically unlocks and answer the phone. So the phone becomes unlock in the process. Upon ending call (pressing End Conversation), the phone returns to lock condition. My device firmware is v12. Does v20 firmware works differenly? Does v20 firmware allows swipe to answer call but not to unlock?
Please help, thanks.

I've just done a quick test by calling my phone from another phone. My phone remains locked during a call. I repeatedly tried to press the clock, but wasn't able to access it. I am still on V11 firmware.
Try the same test on your phone and tell us what happens.

I did the same with my N97 firmware v12 before posting this new thread. I use desk phone to call N97 in locked mode.
Upon ringing, if I swipe right to left on Unlock icon, the phone unlocks, and I have to select either Answer or Reject icons.
And upon ringing, if I swipe left to right on Answer icon, the phone unlocks and already in Answering mode (no Anwer or Reject icons) but the usual 4 icons Mute, etc.
In both instances, the screen is active (unlock).
Anyone with firmware v12 and have this same sympton?

Hi Rocket_88
Do you have to unlock the phone to answer the phone? How do you answer the phone when it is locked in the first place?
Do you see the 4 icons during call? I can see 4 icons (Mute, etc) during call and they are active.
For the clock, it is not pressing the clock on the top left corner, but the blank space at the top right corner, then a box appear where you can select the clock time.
Can you try and tell us?

Ya, user interface software needs improvement
should allow user to decide active or inactive touchscreen during call, and if inactive, can be activated by sliding the slider switch.
Now I have to live with unlocking phone, select answer, then lock phone before talking to the caller, and after ending call, unlock the phone, select End Conversation, then lock phone. What is tedious process for answering call ![]()

ohh joy another one who has a problem with the N97
That's constructive - really making use of the support forums aren't we?!
Sounds to me like there's an issue with the Prox Sensor in your handset. It's blanks the screen in any N97 I've used when it's within an inch of my head!

Thanks for advice, but the proximity sensor is working: place my hand over it (about an inch) and the screen blanks off (inactive) too.
Problem is sometimes while holding the phone in a conversation besides the left ear, the hand shifted the phone backward, thereby creating an empty space in front of the sensor, and activates the touchscreen. At this point in time, the left ear touches the left top corner of the screen and opens the clock/BT box, and the ear touches the clock icon, so finally opening the time clock on the entire screen. This will not happen if the hand holds the phone steadily in a fix position relative to the ear. Problem is while talking, my phone is not fixed steadily to the ear at a fixed point.
Sigh ![]()
Does anyone able to answer the N97 phone in a screen-locked condition? and remain screen-locked?

The latest firmware allows me to swipe the answer arrow on the screen to answer incoming call while keeping the touchscreen as locked.
Resolved by latest N97 firmware ![]()

on my N97 v 21.05 (latest ) i can swipe to answer.
the phone does all of the answering procedures properly usually ( unless it freezes, which isn't the topic here)
i also find that the clock is always showing when i go to 'hang up'
i wondered whether this was okay or not.
