N96 receiving calls

The phone is set up for dual mode but when I receive a call and it is on 3G, I may hear the person the other side for a split second and then it cuts off altogether. I have to wait until a GPRS signal is received and then I can phone back no problem or receive the call if the caller phones a second time.
I am finding thsi extremely annoying and any advcie would be appreciated. I live on the fringe of a 3G area.

Re: N96 receiving calls

Does this only happen when you´re on the edge of the 3G network?

Re: N96 receiving calls

I would suggest you change from dual mode to GSM and see what happens. If you live on the fringe of the 3g signal that is probably the problem.

Re: N96 receiving calls

Actually i have noticed it happening elsewhere. I can see the 3G logo but no signal strength and connection drops out. I then have to wait for the GPRS signal to kick in before I can make or take a call. Very frustrating.

What is the point in buying a 3G enabled phone and then switch it off...

Have you tried updating the phone´s software via NSU?

Nokia Software Updater

All you need for this is a internet connection and a data cable for your phone!

Saving battery power.

I usually have the phone set to GSM only and switch it to dual mode when I need to use it as a modem.

Yes, that is a solution for battery problems, but not for the problem described initially in this thread. This should be the last recourse if all other measures haven´t worked out. :smileyhappy:

Re: N96 receiving calls

The original problem is one of the reasons why I disable 3G most of the time.

I live and work on the edges of 3G coverage areas. With it enabled my phones are constantly switching between 3G and GSM causing SMS messages to be delayed and calls to drop or for me to be unreachable.

There is no real solution for it other than switching to a network with better coverage in your area (if any of the other networks offer better coverage).

Re: N96 receiving calls

I have just updated thge software from v10 to v12 so I will monitor to check if I still have drop outs. If I still have a problem I will try GPRS but I was of the opinion that it should automatically switch if moving from a 3G to a 2G area.
Thansk for the advise. It is appreciated.
