N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

Hi,

I have updated my N96 and now, the multimedia button doesn´t work. It tries to go to the multimedia menu, but it can´t.

Any solution for this problem?

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

I have the same problem as well; the sreen dims or clears sometimes but returns back to the same screen. It did work just fine before the update.

I have tried re-installing the software over again but that did not help. Strangely it did not wipe the phone like normal - all my contacts etc were still there --- so maybe some sort of update issue as well.

So I have to naviagte the menus to get to the photo's etc :-(

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

The N96 (and all S60v3/FP2 phones) has what's known as UDP, or User Data Protection, which means that your data isn't wiped when you do a firmware upgrade. The N82 also has this, and I believe that it's the only S60v3/FP1 phone to do so.

The first thing to check is operator branding. If both of you who have noticed this are on the same operator then it would seem to indicate that the operator's customizations are at fault.

Failing that, you should try a revert to factory settings. This won't wipe your phones, it'll just put the settings back to factory defaults and your files will be preserved.

Enter *#7780# from the standby screen. If you're prompted for a lock code, the default on all Nokia phones is 12345. Obviously if you've changed yours then you should know what it is :smileyhappy:

Hope this helps.

It didn´t help. I have restored factory settings as you explain, but the multimedia button still not works.

My operator is Movistar...

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

I have also restored factory settings; via menu route and short code - still the same issue.

Operator is different - Vodafone UK

I did not know about the new development in keeping all user data - thats a good step forward :-).

So does that mean all settings are kept including time for instance hence it should not ask for these settings on re-boot from upgrade / re-install of software ?

Thx,

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

Have Vodafone released an update ALLREADY ????
whats your model code ??
I think the branded phones have dfferent ideas on the media
and if UPD is on the phone Vodafones own media will be in that cat and may still try to launch when media is played

Most complaints here are about VODAPHONE NOT doing software updates may be thats why. they have seen the problem and are waiting till its fixed

The latest version for generic, unbranded N96s is 11.101 or 11.018 depending on which product code yours is.

Enter *#0000# from the standby screen. This gives you the version currently installed in your phone.

Then do "Options" / "Check for updates".

The rest is self-explanatory :smileyhappy:

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

I'm not aware that Vodaphone have released an update yet (or should we say made changes to the code and agreed to make an update available via NSU).

I'm running latest avaialble as per signature below.

I've also upgraded my phone & the multimedia key has stopped working aswell. Reinstalling hasn't worked so I guess we have to wait for Nokia to come up with a solution.

hey i don't know if this is much help but i have a generic handset and upgraded my software to v11.101 (uk Ireland cv or something like that) and the media key is working fine so maybe its only a issue with the network branded software?

The problem is for network branded software.
Anyone has tried to format the phone?

Reformatting the phone won't remove the operator branding if that's what you were thinking of.

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

The version of software I am running as opposite is not network branded and the problem is there.

Installing non network branded versions should overwite any branding anyway.

Except that installing generic software is not possible on a branded phone in the first place...

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

Hi again,

A friend has done a "hard reset" and know the multimedia button works fine again. That might be the solution.

Re: N96, multimedia button does not work after upgrading firmware

Yes hard reset worked but using the code did not invoke it; had to do the octopus 4 key method...

Key then worked fine; interestingly I then restored all my data that had been back up to a memory card only to get the same problem...

So I reset again and restored the back up data item by item - long story short the problem is with the data backed up 'settings' - so if you restore your data from a backup omit this and hopefully all will be fine.

I'd guess there is some sort of issue with how the data indexes on the phone; not sure if there is an option to 're-index' or similar the phone data. Hopefully the above should solve for all of us :-)

I have the same problem, tried 'hard reset' via code, but this did not resolve.

What is the 'the octopus 4 key method'???
