I too would like to know what the '4 key octopus' method is please. Thanks.

I have the same issue on a debranded n96. I changed the product code and updated to latest firmware. No media button now.

Get your hands and feet out.....


+ Turn off the mobile device.
+ Press and Hold the following three buttons: the green Call Answer button, the “*” button, and the number “3″ button.
+ While holding these buttons, turn on the phone and keep holding the keys untill the mobile phone restarts and prompts you to enter details.

My firmware is now 11.101, i updated to this after the product code change and debrand, the media button did not work.

Fennys combo he just posted has now solved my issues, phones working better than ever to be honest, and my file manager is back in tools, this also dissappeared. I backed up my contacts only and stuck them back on the phone. Everything is spot on, and good to have the multimedia button back.

Hi All the "hard reset" fixes the issue nicely thx !

Confirmed the octopus reset technique works. I have a Vodafone UK N96 debranded and running software v 12.043 I did the following:

1. Octopus reset
2. Confirm Multimedia Key working (pass)
3. Full backup
4. Confirm Multimedia Key working (FAIL)

I then did the following:

1. Octopus reset
2. Confirm Multimedia Key working (pass)
3. Backup all data EXCEPT "SETTINGS"
4. Confirm Multimedia Key working (pass)

It looks like the backed up settings are the problem.

So far as I'm concerned resetting the settings is a small price to pay for having the Multimedia Key back, I forgot how much I missed that little bad-boy!
