My wife has a brand new N96 that's acting funny. Fully charged, the phone will show the battery as ful for almost the entire day, with heavy Fring use, Internet, and normal calls. At night, the battery meter will suddenly go from FULL to nothing, and the phone will beep and disaply the battery low message.

Why would it be doing this, where the meter shows full (even with use) and then fall to nothing at once. Could it be a faulty battery or handset? 

It's covered until warranty, but I would like to know the cause before I call it in with Nokia.

it could very well be a bug in the firmware. do you have the lastest firmware on your phone. you can check this by plugging in *#0000# from your standby or homescreen. n96 does not have a very long battery life so having to recharge it every day after heavy fring use is actually reasonable. it might be an issue with the indicator. in this case you can try to exchange your phone via provider and see if it does the trick but first make sure you have the latest provider approved firmware as this might just solve your issue.

Mine used to drain the battery at night but now it has been charged over a few cycles it has carded down.

Also a new N96 will index the handset to allow the search function to run, maybe yours id doing that while its idle over night?

I would leave it a week or so and see if it picks up.
