Re: N95 internet calls

There is a software package that can be downloaded to the N95 that works well with the internet call application. Go to http://www.gizmoproject.com/ then choose "Learn More" from the menu tab. After the window opens from the choices to the left you will notice the option "Gizmo for Nokia", in the next window choose the device desired,N95 is amongst the list. In the next window select and download GizmoVoIP.sisx. Once this is installed making internet calls are easy. You can simply go to your contact select the contact you wish to call, use the left click button to get options and choose how to make your call: Voice Call, Video Call, Internet Call". If you call any one with a gizmo account the call you make is free. From the Gizmo project home page you can create an account and purchase call out minutes to make international calls to pstn lines.

Re: N95 internet calls

Very simple. As someone said, get gizmoproject.

Once you install it and config it, and purchase some time, you are all set.

From here, all you do is to go into your phone book. Select a name. Then hit the option key, select call. One right arrow press until you see, GSM Call, Video Call and Internet Call. Select Internet call and it will try to register to the network. Once registered, it will dial and you are on your way.

Re: N95 internet calls

Note that if you're using a network connection rather than WiFi, you should be on a VOIP-compatible data plan. These are usually even more expensive than regular data plans.

Even with a so-called "unlimited" data plan, you could still end up paying £2/MB for your call as "unlimited" usually means strictly limited to some absurdly small amount.

Re: N95 internet calls

Whoa.......

What is a VoIP-compatible data plan and how is this different from an unlimited data plan? I pay 9.95 euro/month for unlimited data. I use it for surfing, VoiP, Podcasts, etc....... It this something limited or special in the UK?

Re: N95 internet calls

Pre-installed?

Where are you located? There is no Skype client. Only Fring, and iSkoot.

Re: N95 internet calls

What version of Skype is on your phone as there is currently no Skype client for any S60 phone.

Re: N95 internet calls

Have you not heard of X-Series on 3?

Google it - I think you'll find your statement is incorrect.

Re: N95 internet calls

Not sure if this is directed at me or not, but as I have asked, is it a Skype client? Having a client that can access the Skype network is not the same thing. Fring can do this, as does iSKoot but they are not Skype. They are simply clients that are allowed to SDK the protocol to develop an application for S60.

Sapporobaby, do iskoot and fring allow you to call other computers using skype for free? is that an option?

I use SKYPE on my PC to call people in the US on their PCs. Iam in Irleand. will i be able to call those same people who use skype in US for free with my N95??

Re: N95 internet calls

I was under the impression that UK Vodafone and Orange (not sure about the others) would not be capable of using VoiP at all - cos the network **bleep** that they dump on the device also disables the VoiP capability. Do the Fring and iSkoot applications overcome this issue even on a "network screwed" phone?

Re: N95 internet calls

you are absolutely correct in that some network providers don't allow voip. However it can be rerouted (don't know or care about how) using an app like Fring. There are some call quality issues mind, but not worth the concern if your calling for free, using skype or msn or one of the other providers Fring links with.

Re: N95 internet calls

Great news! Thanks for that! :smileyhappy: I'll go do the downloading then!

Out of curiosity, have you tried using video with either of these apps like you might on MSN or Skype from a PC using a webcam? It's not really something I'm that bothered about - but given that I have this toy - it would be cool if it worked! Hehe!
