hi,
my n95 does not display message sender properly.
i have the sender's number saved in contacts. when i receive message, it does not display sender's name but +61 plus the mobile number.
for example, i have paul in my contacts, his number is 0401000000. when i receive message from him, my phone does not display paul as the sender, but only +61401000000.
i have to write down the number and find it in my contacts to see who the sender is.
can anyone please help?
thanks.

Have you checked if you do have duplicate entries.
The best way for you to check on that is by
-First try calling out Paul to see if the name appers, in this case it might not.
-Then delete that purticular number (Paul),
-Then dial out the number again (DO NOT USE THE ONE FROM YOUR LAST DIAL LIST).
See if you have any name appearing on the screen.
if it still does not appear, then back up all your contacts,
-delete all of them and try saving just 1 contact and try calling it out.

Kingpin's quite right that duplicate entries in the phone book are almost always the reason for this - though I'd use search to find duplicates rather than just deleting phone book entries.
More info on the best way to use search for this and on other possible causes of the problem and their solutions can be found here.

Didnt think of the search option, sounds to be a better idea patc.
use the search icon on your phone, just enter the number or part of it and scroll down to contacts, it will show you if you have one or more names to it.

hey~~~ i have checked my phone.
1. when i make phone calls to people who have already been in my contacts, it displays fine.
2. there are no duplicated names or numbers in contact.
i have also noticed that when i receive message from an unknown number, in the inbox, it shows as 0401000000, but for anyone in my contacts, it shows as +61401000000.
well, the problem is still there, any other thing i can try?
thanks.

I know someone with the same issue on his N85.
But the phone is branded to Vodafone network,
Not sure if it is a bug on the firmware carried by vodafone but i guess if you are sure its not duplicates then you may wanna do a software upgrade if available or simply re-install your software.
