N95 TV-Out problems

Hi Guy's, Here's hoping someone can help!

I've seen several threads regarding this problem, but I cannot workout what the solution is.

Basically the TV-Out cable function no longer works with my N95. When the phone was new, (6 months ago) I tried it and I recall it working fine. Now if I plug the cable into the TV first I get an "Enhancement Not Supported" message when I plug into the phone. On the flip side if I plug into the phone first then the TV I get the "Use Phone Microphone" message, However the picture is screwed up and there is a buzzing noise from the TV.

I've tried the Headset and it works fine.

Any Ideas??

Thanks

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

Hi lynchie

Could it possibly be dirty contact in jack socket? Only recently the converse situation was posted , where TV-out worked fine but one of the channels on headset didn't although phone speakers both worked (faulty headset was excluded).
Happy to have helped the forum in a small way from 2007-10

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

I've seen this happen on my N95-1 when it had 10.x firmware. Updating to the 11.x firmware resolved it for me. Having said that I am not too sure that it's a software issue but if all else fails why not try updating or reinstalling your firmware and seeing how you fare with that.

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

Hi Scoobyman and Keffa,

Firstly thanks for the quick replies.

I suspected the contacts first, (Simpliest solutions are usually the best place to start!). However if i plug the cable into the phone first every thing looks fine from the N95 end. However the Picture and Audio on the TV are Kaput. I also tried changing the settings for the TV-Out enhancement.

I'll try the Firmware upgrade and see where that gets me!

Thanks again guy's

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

I got the same problem as you. So I thought it was just my cable. But now when I see this problem becoming more and more common, I now understand this is some serious issue.

So I tried to update the firmware (like you did, or will do). But without any kind of progress, still this strange noises from the tv, and the screen a mess.

So is there any kind of solution to this problem? Because, I've already sent my phone for repair without any progress either...

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

I'm been looking for others with this same problem...

I mean, it doesn't matter if you change any options on the phone. And the phone it self never recognize any tv. And I've tested about 4-5 different tv's.
And it does not stop there, I've also sent it away for repairs not just once, three times! And every time I got the same response: "There is nothing wrong with your phone".

So if there is any solution out there, please share it soon!

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

Sorry all for my all my three posts in a row here...

But I maybe just found a solution to the problem...or a part of it. If you try to put in the cable (in the headphonejacket) the phone will probably say something like: "No support for device". But if you try once more, but put it in slowly and gentle, and it should pop-up a picture on your tv.
(Don't know if it works for all you other guys =/)

But there is also one downside with this...the sound! There ain't any sound =(

Exactly the same problems here as reported by others, and my phone is brand new, straight out of the box. Strange garbled picture, some sound but a VERY loud buzzing over the top. It appears to me as if the connectors aren't aligned properly in the device and so audio and video signals are getting mixed up. I'll take mine in for repair and see what happens..

Update: after playing around for a few more minutes, I've discovered that it IS definitely a misalignment of the connectors - if i hold the plug VERY firmly in the socket, it gives correct output, but release the pressure just a little bit and it's gone. So most likely a manufacturing fault in either the plug or socket housing is causing this. Mention this to the repairers and I'm sure it can be fixed?

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

I had this problem with my N95.

Cutting the story short, its repair has been nothing but a disaster.

The jack socket was not functioning correctly.

I suggest that you take it to the local Nokia Care Point, and demonstrate the problem to the staff.

I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

So maybe Nokia is not full aware of this problem, and probably there ain't not enough information from those which send it to repair. So no action will be taken by Nokia either.

So maybe it is time to make more noise about this. Make nokia know about this serious problem they got with the production. I mean there is not just two of us with this...there is probably about hundreds, maybe even thousands of these phones with exactly this kind of problem.
But how do we make Nokia aware of this?

Re: N95 TV-Out problems

Can't say I've had this problem, yet. Although I have seen it quite a lot on audio equipment when the contacts in the jack socket become worn or damaged

But looking at your picture, quateefbt. If that solution works for other people then I suggest finding a small rubber washer to fit over the jack plug to keep it from being pushed in too far
