N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

Hi

Does anyone else have distortion on thier earpiece. Even if I turn the volume down I still get it, its like a vibration on the voice thats coming through the headphone.

Its a brand new phone so I would rather get a replacement if it is faulty than wait a while and only be entitled to a repair.

thanks

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

Hi Rich,

The N95 and the 8GB version use the same speakers, and i have seen alot of the N95 phones with this problem and changing the speaker usually fixes it and it an easy repair.

However if you have had it only a short time, and by short i mean less then a month, then personally i would want a replacement and that would have to come from the company that supplied it to you.
If it is an exchange you are after, its best to be prompt and not leave it too long to take it back.

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

Hi Rich, before you go to the trouble of replacing it there is a VERY easy solution.

Don't laugh, but suck then blow hard directly into the earpiece. (At the top of the phone, covered with a mesh)

This will reshape the speaker and solve your problem!

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

Hi Gordon

Thanks for the suggestion, my girlfriend knows i love my new N95, but when she saw me doing as you suggested...she started to worry!!

Anyway, ive done it a couple of times now and it has certainly improved it, if not entirely cured it.

If I continue to suck/blow will it get better or have I got the best improvement im going to get?

The phone is perfect in every other way, no sqeaks or wobbles from the slider etc, knowing my luck if I do exchange it i will get a duff one!

cheers

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

This is the best cure ive ever heard.
Suck and blow.. :smileyvery-happy:

But if it works, then its all good.

Dont do it too hard though, you might burst the membrane on the speaker and pop it.

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

OMG!! Thank you! This works! The distortion has happened before but not to the scale it had been yesterday. I phoned the O2 shop where i got it from and they said either bring it in to send it off to nokia or go to my not so local Nokia repair center. I was dreading doing this, but now i need not worry! And if it happens again, ill just give it a quick suck. Oi Oi! You are in fact a legend. I'm glad there are innovative people like you on the forums! Many thanx again.=D

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

Yea Ive had the same problem with mine thats only 1 week old. However a BIG thanks goes out to 'gordonshower'a few posts down who suggested to suck and blow into the earpiece 3 or 4 times as this really does fix it totally and saved me sending it off for 6 weeks for repair etc, many thanks,

Ben

Re: N95 8gb distortion/vibration on earpiece ?

It worked on my N95 too. I already sent it back for repair once and was really diappointed when the fault reappeared after only 2 weeks. O2 said they'd have to repair it 3 times before giving up and replacing it so I thought I'd have a go at dismantling it myself but then I saw this post and tried it. Bingo! Thanks.

hello everyone! my problem is like yours, except that sound level of earpiece fall down with no reason...after some time, returns to normally. I try your sollution with sucking and blowing, and seems that it works. I will come back after a few days, for details. Best wishes
