Other night my phone stopped receiving texts, rang o2 to see if there had been any bars put on my phone - none at all they just said turn it on & off, if problem keeps happening update the software.


Turned phone off & on again, got 5 texts straight away..

Oviously can see when a text is coming through because you got a slash through the signal sign, but the texts wont actually come through until i turn phone off & on again..

Have been doing this everytime now to receive a text, backed up all memory & updated software and the problem still exists.

Is any one else having this problem or is there a way to sort it out??

I have the same problem with an N73 on O2. Only started happening at the beginning of April. However, I have no idea that I have a text message so unless I remember to keep turning the phone off and on I just never get any. Don't get indictations of voicemail either :-( I have had the phone for almost a year the latest version of firmware and haven't previously had a problem with this. I did think I'd cured it by changing the message store to phone memory rather than card but that doesn't now seem to be the case. It's very frustrating. Will be interested to hear of any solutions.

Your options be a hard reset or re-update the firmware, that is if the problem is not with your SIM cards.

trouble is I've tried this - have reinstalled firmware twice this month but it hasn't helped. I haven't replaced the SIM but O2 have tested and said it's ok & it works ok in my other phone. Does seem suspect that we're both with O2 and this has only just started happening though. Think I'll take mine into the service station and see what they make of it.

Did you guys try using SIM of another operator and check if this happens ?

hi, no, I haven't tried another SIM, I have a Virgin one I can try. Trouble is, when the phone is first rebooted it works so I'll have to leave that card in a few days to tell. Incidentally there are no stored messages on my phone or card at all. I deleted them all in case one was "stuck" or something.

I think this is an O2 problem. Several of my friends on O2 have had problems receiving messages this week and they don't have nokia's. The messages come through when the phones are rebooted.

It must be a problem with the O2 firmware as i'm having the same problem with my N95.

I dont recieve text messages until i reset my phone but they do show up on my log as having been received.

Edit: I'm not sure if this 2nd incident is related but a few days before this started happening to me whenever i received a text message it only showed the senders number and not their name even though they are in my contacts list. I had deleted all the contacts from my sim card and only used the ones on my phone memory but still didnt fix it.

Anyone know why this happens?

Update on this:


Backed up all my content onto the pc and then installed all the new software, etc, put all content back on, etc - same problem wasnt receiving texts!

Went into an o2 store and they gave me a new 3G simcard (as mine was quite old) worked fine for 5mins, then stopped working again & had to keep on turning it on & off.

Then randomly few days later just started working fine, dont know if it was to do with the 3G simcard, could of been but I dont know the actual reason it started working again..

I have the same problem but I have the messages set to use memory card and I have around 2000 messages, what is your current number of messages? I have the first generation of N95 and I also have the latest firmware. Ressetting the phone works, switching memory location for messages also works. Using a Backup after a firmware erase puts the problem back on... so it may be with the number of messages.

I have the same problem and I have software version 30.0.18 and I was told by Three that it is a problem on the software version. Unfortunately it could not be downgraded and their recommendation is to format the phone and reinstall the software which both did not work. They offer to replace my phone with a different model but I am not willing to do that so now I am waiting for them to contact me when Nokia fixes the problem.
