N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

Unfortunately Nokia decided to sell the Nokia N95 8GB without any camera lens protection. After using the mobile for several weeks you can see the skretches wide and clearly. This design decision should definitely be reconsidered. Is there any possibility to replace the lens? Thank You

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

I'm wondering what's wrong with the lens cover. I have been very careful not to scratch it. But there are so many blemishes. Some of them are tiny specs that don't even look like scratches at all, that's why I tend to refer to them as blemishes. It is as if some kind of coating has come off.

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

hi

doesnt really help you now, but i would really suggest you get the martin fields screen protector for your N95. Ive heard people raving about them in the past but never bothered, but ive got one and in the pack you get the main screen protector along with both lenses and the flash.

cant see them when they are on and some say you get better colour/light from the screen when using one!

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

yeah, i had to buy a case for my phone, even though that won't really help but it reduces the risks.
I used to think to my self... "who the **bleep** was in charge with the changes in the camera design the day they decided on the final N95 8GB release???"

but hey, im over it now :smileywink:

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

Ok I've gotten the Martin Fields Overlay Plus screen protector. I've put it on for the Camera Window and Flash. I already have a screen protector for the main display, so I thought I'd just keep the Martin Field's one for user another time.

The screen protector fits perfectly and covers the camera window completely! No gaps along the edges. The same is true for the flash protector too. Although I'm not planning to replace the screen protector for the main display just yet, I checked out how they would fit. It seems even this was designed to fit perfectly over every bit of the main LCD display. Wonderful.

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

The perspex you see is not the lens. The lens is well set inside. It is just a clear glass which acts as protector. It is usually attached to the back panel which can be replaced.

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

Yes, the actual lens is protected. However, the camera window is still not a user replaceable part, so... still best to take good care of it. :smileyhappy:

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

You can buy the camera lenses off ebay, i got mine for a tenner and fitted it myself, its a piece 'o' **bleep**.

Then after that i cut down a screen protector and its easy enough to swap when it scratches ;-)

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

Nokia removed the lens cover to make way for the bigger battery.
That's right people, I'm back. Where have I been? I have been getting a life, away from this electric madness.

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

I have live with my N95-2 not having a lens cover..In fact, its not big a deal for me..I just use a lens protector to protect the lens(and I always have a spare in hand)...Lens replace are readily available anywhere(atleast in my area) if you happen to have a damage/broken one.

Re: N95 8GB - Camera Lens Replacement

Ok I haven't found the camera window (note I'm referring to the protective clear perspex, not the lens itself) easily available in Singapore. From this forum I heard that you could buy from blueunplugged but I checked with them and found there are no installation instructions.

So not wanting to risk an adventure possibly mucking up the replacement, I just got Nokia Care to replace it (apparently claimable under warranty). Then subsequently got a proper screen protector for it.
