You can use the HDD tools on the phone under Tools.

Or you can use a PC. Connect the phone using File Transfer then in Windows explorer Right click on the HDD and select Format.

Just be advised that EVERYTHING will be lost on the HDD. IF you didn't make copies of the things you want to keep they will be lost forever.

I have tried that and it fails. The phone cannot be seen by the computer as media storage, because the application in the resource folder in the hard disk prevents that.
I can connect to the phone using the USB cable and the Nokia PC suite, but again I cannot remove that folder because the application is running when the phone starts up. I have also tried to delete that folder from the phone directory using file manager -> find -> resource, but again it fails to delete.
Does safe mode exist in Nokia S60?

Thanks in advance.

Re: N91 HDD problems

Hi,
just in case you wondered about a solution, unfortunately there wasn't one.
I had my phone replaced by Carphonewarehouse as part of their first month warranty.

Re: N91 HDD problems

Now that the N91 is working correctly. Create a Copy of the Hard Drive in your PC.

When you install programs (SIS, SISX files) install them in the Phone Memory, that way if you get in trouble you can Reset the Phone memory *#7370#

Re: N91 HDD problems

hey guys. My n91 has given me probs over the last month.
I opened the bak cover one day. it gave warning msg. i put it bak on. then it immediately said hard drive unavailable.

After a couple days it came around. it said it needed a format. So i formatted it. it worked fine for a few days then when i'm playing music or something while accessing hard drive, then it wil freeze. Hard drive goes unavailable again. It comes around earlier then it needs another reformat. I do it, it works fine again. Then it goes faulty again after a few days. i eventually had to format it like 7 times over the past month.

silly phone. now i just dont fiddle too much.
can anyone assist me.
o yes i have also installed newest software update recently. one format ago. V2.10.013

I'm not too sure but i think when i opened the bak cover at that time, the disk was still being accessed and the sudden decrease in air pressure may have jerked the read/write head and may have possibly damaged it. You should know that all hard drives need a certain amount of air pressure equilibrium. That accounts for that hole you see on hard drives saying "do not cover".

k guys, please advise me here. i do not have a nokia care center near by.
thanks

Re: N91 HDD problems

In the battery cover there is a magnet.

There is a chance that the magnet has become de-magnetized and therefor the phone can't detect the battery cover being in place.

The only way to fix this would be to get a new battery cover. That has the magnet! The magnet is in a rectangular bump in the right hand side of the battery cover.

You can test for the magnet being present by using a paper clip or other metal object.

The magnet may be there for your cover but it may be too weak.

Otherwise, there could be a problem with your Hard Drive.
Try doing a Full Format instead of the quick format.
