I got the Nokia N86 running v11.043 software but my mate has a Nokia N96 with v20.050 software. Both these phones use Stereo Speakers but how come N96 speakers are much louder than N86?
Does the N86 have the same speakers as N85 which are not good ?

Dont know why Nokia does this. Why do they reduce volume for ? I ve noticed that with some Nokia devices they be loud and firmware updates reduces the loudness. Why on earth would you do that for?Its not as if the phones going through inspection and has to comply with audio volume regulations on speakers. Speakers are different and volume optimization should only apply to loudness regarding earphones.

bass booster will decrease the loudness in loudspeaker & stereo widening will decrease sound in earphone ![]()
so we have switch on only bass booster while hearig in ear phone & only stereo widening for loudspeakers for better sound acc to me ![]()
bass booster or loudness [in settings] along with bass booster [in equaliser] in earphones will give good THUMP..!! effect to your ears ![]()

I have been waiting for too long for the N86 (why it took so long from Barcelona??). But now all I ´ve heard in these forums are bugs and problems lists !!.
The buttons get scratched when the slider works, the poor volume, freezing often, camera not delivering.
Well, what is this?. Is Nokia going wild with so many anauncements together? I will need a genious software in nokia web pages to find what I want !
So, shoul I wait (once, yes ounce more) now for the N 900?
So many of us think Nokia do need a much active and better Public relations I fear Nokia says they are listening (oh, thanks), but the truth to my opinion is that thay are getting the "sleepers" from being first sellers. Beware, Apple did gave you a kick in the head and changed the industry.

Yup! You guessed right! The same **bleep** speaker of N85 comes with the great N86....! N86's speakers are worser than any N Series phone's speakers....... well except N85 maybe!!! I am not talking about the volume but the speakers themselves. I think they are very-very small! This doesn't have anything to do with the OS. It's in the hardware... Firmware upgrades are useless...
if you play a song from the Internet Radio (128KBPS) at full volume throughout the speakers you will notice its louder than music player output so after all Nokia can update firmware and tweak the audio output ![]()

As a happy N95 8GB user, I had high hopes for the N86 after much research. The reviews were promising, although there are numerous mentions of poor sound quality. Surely this couldn't be?
O2 delivered my N86 last week, and I was instantly disappointed by the AWFUL, tinny, quality of the calls and even worse, the loudspeakers. I sent the phone back, assuming that a new model couldn't be THAT bad, and, today, took delivery of a brand new handset; it ha exactly the same problem. I am a diehard Nokia fan, but the call quality is so bad that it beggars belief Nokia could release a handset with speakers and a sound chip of such low quality.
Nokia - PLEASE FIX THE AWFUL SOUND QUALITY! This phone is great in so many ways, but the overall call and loudspeaker quality is genuinely shocking. I suppose the tiny speakers are necessary to improve the 'pocketability'/ profile of the phone, but clearly at a cost.
A quick scour around these discussion groups and elsewhere confirms many other's have evidently clued up to the fact that whilst it's a great phone - fantastic camera, feels good in the hand, and for those few of us left that like buttons, it ticks all the boxes. But I'm afraid it's got to go back - I couldn't bear to use this phone day in, day out, which such risible sound quality.
Ah, not to worry, such issues will be fixed in eminent firmware upgrades, surely? Speaking to Nokia directly, and looking at the bugs the latest firmware DOES fix, it doesn't appear sound is on the menu (although I could be wrong). I'm sure they will be addressed in time - Nokia must be aware of the general feedback related to the sound issue (!?) but I don't want to wait.
