OMG thanks for posting this link ~N86TO. It seems that v20 is a real **bleep**!
Luckly for me, i did not installed it.
I manage to get GPS working on my v10 firmware
, so the best sollution is to wait for V31.
Good luck everyone!

I faced a very strange problemin my N86.
My cousin is using E71 and his GPS is working, So when I used his SIM in my phone, my GPS started working. then I put my SIM in his phone then also the GPS was working.
Then I switched back to my own SIM back to my phone and GPS worked properly for Sometime and then again it stopped working.
I tried up calling Nokia call center, but didnt get any meaningful info. I also took the phone to the nokia-care and all they could do is to reset the phone.

Hello everybody.
I have also the same problem. My embedded GPS wont work (froom the beginning) Nokia maps can't find any satelites, neither all the other application using gps except Google maps, I really dont understand.
I don't have the last update (20) because it doesn't available for ma N86, Still using the build 11.43.
If anyone has a trick to make it work, I would be welcome!!!
Thanks a lot

hi mate
ive noticed the gps on my n86 wasnt great ,signal accuarcy was jumping up and down so wouldnt give an accuarate reading making it hard for the sat nav app (garmin) to display me correctly
i took mine back to a different shop to get a new one from a different batch
the gps is a bit better but still has the signal jumps when viewing through the inbuilt gps data app
compared to my n96 the gps defently isnt as strong
the most worrying thing -- on looking at the back of the handset the gps design is the same as the n97 -- ive had a n97 and experienced the gps issues 1st hand with three handsets
iam now andering if the gps on the n86 has the same fault as what nokia have said about the n97 -- that the gps reciever is having interference from the main pcb board causing gps signal jumps and loss of signal and that the gps reciever indeed needs to be shielded from the interference just like the new n97 shileded gps reciever
just a thought but seeing as the phones were in devlopment together and released near the same time and seem to share the same gps reciever design then it wouldnt suprise me
only thing is the n86 isnt as populaur as the n97 so there wont be as many complaints and therfore nokia may never make a fix for this problem a few n86s seem to have
my second one seems to work better but uis still not as good as my n96 or n82

I'm having problems too with gps fix i went to a nsp today but they reinstalled v11 i asked for a update to v20.. my ex 5800 didnt have problems getting a fix and now my i8910(samsung) is really amazing with ovi maps on it start ovi maps 3sec and there you go. the n86 sometimes when i need to navigate stays 3 to 10minutes (its faster when you restart your phone) i think i am going to sell mine if v20 sucks

This is how i solve the problem in my n86 gps .
First I update the firmware again ( v11) in the computer, Not in the phone over the air. I think the bug comes from that .
Update from the computer.
Then just make a hard reset ("Hold down * and 3 and the green call button while turning the phone on.")
And now your phone gps should be ok .
Now i get a fix in seconds . and with the firmware update over the air it take sometimes 30 minutos or not signal at all.
Good luck.

No, some settings. It was not the first hard reset I try to fix the problem. Was the first hard reset after update the firmware again by the computer.
If you update your firmware by the FOTA and you have the gps problem try update again by the computer and then hard reset on it. It worked like magic on me.
good luck

Thanks a lot for your answer!
I will try that, I must confess that I made my mind that Gps won't work until a particular update.
First thing I made when I bought my N86 was to update it to the latest firmware thanks to my PC (FM v11.43).
After that (2 months ago now) I never made a hard reset, and never reinstall the firmware (why not? Because no new FM available), didn't know it will fix some gltches by reinstalling the same FM. And my phone works just fine despite the gps without google!
I hope it will work, (I'll try tonight or tomorrw nignt), And I get back to you telling if that worked for me or not!
Good day
Antoine

Hello evererybody!
It worked for me... Still very long to synchronise with satellites, but it eventually worked!
But, I made a hard reset (*,green and 3), and it formatted my sim card (contacdts, messages, calendar), not my music in mass storage. I got lucky, Ive made a backup 1 month ago, but guys dont get to hurry, and make a backup before...
Thanks for the tip anyway, finally my phones operates properly.
This phone is very good by the way, made a trip in como lake last week, only took my phone with me to take pictures/videos, my first real crash test (I bought this phone for his quality in photos/videos, and I must say, it very good in any conditions...
Im a little disappointed by his autonomy (non tactil phone and small screen). The batteries last for 2 days in normal use... and by desactivated all features, only use the phone as a digital camera, battery last for 3 days... Not very good for me.
