Re: N85 Rebooting

[ Edited ]
I have recently bought this new Nokia N85, exactly on the date of its release, i think it was 20 Oct '08 when it released in the City of Ahmedabad in India.

The phone has been working good, but since 2 days, whenever I keep the phone on charging, many a times it autmoatically keeps rebooting (restarting)..

I am seriously tired of this... I am not able to find any way out, just now I came across a discussion that is...

/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=118652

The person who has been facing this problem he has mentioned that he got it replaced... So I would even like to have a replacement for the same..

I have been having a large craze for this mobile since the day I saw it first on internet, that was about 3 weeks or 1 month before its release.

And that is the reason, I got it on the very first day of its release, and in fact I am the very first buyer of this mobile in the city of Ahmedabad, India

I purchased it from Bohra Communications
7 Hira Panna Complex, Stadium Circle, C.G.Road, Navrangpura

Now please help me out for this problem, I cant really bare my mobile keeps restarting every now and then.......

Kindly reply to the soonest possible..

Regards
Deep Sukhwani

Re: N85 Rebooting

My phone either freezes or reboots. It's annoying! And when it freezes its only on one application, so have to go back to the menu and I can't use the application it freezes on until i reboot the phone.

N85 Rebooting, sick of Nokia..

I had the rebooting problem while listening mp3 watching video from microsd card or from phone memory with old or new simcard(64kb) with old or new firmware(v11). So I recommend everyone specially in Turkey and europe not to buy or purchase N85. I gave my n85 back and I will take my money back soon. Consumer laws agreeble here. Nokia is nothing for me now. I think Nokia can't call back its spoilt or ruined N85 devices cause of economic crisis in the world. So there is no hope for me now..Nokia lost a very big fan like me since 1996( I know they dont care... )

Re: N85 Rebooting

I went into the store I got it from today, and they said because I only had 14 days to change to a totally different phone, I have to stick with this one, but they will give me til the end of nexst week to take in everything that came with the phone in the box, and they will give me a replacement but still the same phone.

I really wish I could give Nokia a piece of my mind. There was my sister sayin "Nokia never lets people down"

What the hell does she know??!

Re: N85 Rebooting

At least they are willing to change for you
Here in Singapore, there is a NO ONE-TO-ONE exchange policy from nokia, they mentioned that they are only manufacturing and they can't change the set for me, and can only send mine in for repair, which I did, and it went to HQ for a Level 3 repair, change the motherboard and everything, came back to me after 1 month, and with more problems. End up I sold off the phone to a 2nd hand dealer at a great loss >.>

Re: N85 Rebooting

Finally Nokia Latam gave me the address of an authorized technical support center in Peru but when I went there they didn´t know too much about this phone and they didn´t know if they had the current version of the software for the phone. In order for them to find out if they had the software I had to pay them, besides of leaving the phone with them for several days.

Looking forward for a new firmware upgrade to see if that solves my problems, otherwise I will have to wait to my next trip to the US. So farI can only place and receive calls, anything else can reboot or freeze the phone (even when opening the phone book or writing a SMS).

Here is an easy question for everyone. This should be a no brainer for the "experts" here.

Question: Name just one phone that is as complex as the N85 that came out with NO problems. Just one phone. The clock is ticking.

While you think about that I will provide a bit of information. The testers have caught most of the bugs or errors. I have friends, to also include myself, that have an N85 that does not reboot, does not hang but has some issues that will be corrected in an upcoming update. Would I like it happen today, yes but today came and went, so I can only hope for tomorrow. Nokia is aware that there are problems. So instead of whining about it constantly, hit the Contact Us link and send them and email regarding your issues. Nokia does not sit in this forum and read your complaints as this is not the intention of this forum.

Well, did anyone come up with one phone that was error free? Didn't think so.

i think thats quite a thought sapporobaby and i second you. :smileyhappy:

Re: N85 Rebooting

@gavingosbert,

Welcome to the forum. My point was just that it is so easy to criticize things. I am more than sure that Nokia does not want to hear the constant stream of complaints. After being in this forum for a bit I have come to realize that there are some people who will complain no matter what. Nothing will suit them. Then there are those who are just users and want it to work. They do not understand the complexities that go into making a phone like the N85 and finally there are those like me and the other senior members who are annoyed with the bugs but understand the process and who click the "Contact Us" link at the top to make our views known. Nokia does not even stop by to read this forum as this not the proper venue to express your complaints with Nokia products.

Re: N85 Rebooting

dark...that may have been a solution for you but there are a lot of us that actually like our n85's and are just waiting for the subsequent firmware updates to make our user experience even better. i don't buy phones because they are perfect out of the box, i buy them because they have potential to be great and have exactly the things i want/need in the phone. hence my patience and waiting for the future firmware releases.

Re: N85 Rebooting

hey sapporobaby,

i got your point loud and clear and i just hope its the same for the rest including the "moaners"

i think theres no need to react especially after lookin at this matter from only a single point of view.
like you said, nokia must already be aware of this problem and im sure theyre workin on it and it will be solved.

by the way i came across some article showing version 11.047 of the firmware do you think it will work? i cant try it out at my place the internet is too slow. please tell me if you know someone whos tried it and if it worked

Re: N85 Rebooting

It seems that upgrading the firmware is not the solution for everybody. I did it and the rebooting issue got worse and now the cell phone not only reboots more frequently but it also freezes and shuts down.

I am waiting for the next firmware upgrade to see it that will solve my problems. I would only want to be sure that these problems are a matter of software (firmware upgrading) and not because of defective hardware.

Regards and good luck

Re: N85 Rebooting

I now doubt that the rebooting will be resolved with a firmware upgrade. I like the phone so I kept it despite the rebooting problem. But now...

A new problem showed up: other end's voice from the headset is randomly turned down and muffled and comes back again. This seems to be a hardware problem. Pressing my ear to the headset harder seems to change that.

This phone is an expensive peace of failure.

I said it before. I will say it again. Nokia should issue a recall for a phone with so many problems. There is a lemon law for cars. This is no different. Clearly certain batches of production for this phone is plagued with many many problems.

FUTURE BUYERS. BE AWARE. DON'T BUY NOKIA N85.

Re: N85 Rebooting

On 4th quarter of 2008, I'd visit Singapore and bought N85, the phone features are so nice and the interface is so beautiful. The day I bought and I play around with the phone and there is no obvious problem on the phone. After I take backmy phone to my home ground – Malaysia and the phone's restart problem has arisen and become worst and worst when the phone is used heavily. The restart problem happen when I typing a SMS, browsing the menu, playing mp3 or just receiving an incoming call, it restarted without notice, it waste me a lot of time for retype the SMS.

I try to send the phone to Nokia service centre when I revisit Singapore after two months, so sad the problem still occurred, phone keeps restarting. What Nokia SC said the problem is software defect, they upgrade the phone software but they should conduct more specified testing and solve this issue accordingly.

So frustrated with this problem, but how I going to solve it?

What if…
• I trade off my phone to Malaysian dealer? My phone value with cut off by 50% even I just using 3 months (cuz I buy at Singapore)
• I trade off my phone to Singapore dealer? No plans for me go to Singapore for next half year.
• I send my phone to Malaysia SC? I need to pay for the fees.
• I keep sending to Singapore NSC until the phone is stable? What's the different I using back my old phone.
• I ask for exchange? But not within their policy?

As to solve the problems ASAP, here I tell how I diagnose the problem and try seeking the root cause for the problem.

• Original set without modification on software settings and hardware specification… Restarting!
• I try restore the default configurations under configuration menu… still restarting!
• I try format my phone by typing *#7780#, still restarting!
• I try operate without SD card… still restarting!
• I try to update phone using NSU, failed on original ver and new version 11.047 (even the latest NSU program failed to operate for several times on Vista or XP, is it the quality of Nokia???)…still restarting!
• I try using different SIM card, different Telco… still restarting!
• I try take out SIM card and test in offline mode, success….maybe there is some problem related to SIM interface and software configuration.

I’ve learn two lessons for buying a phone. Don’t buy the phone oversea even if the place is not so far, for my case, my N85 only provide local limited warranty. But this is not major issue; we still can feel comfort to buy products in foreign country if the product quality is good, right? What I expect now is I hope Nokia can provide satisfaction service and products to consumers. Not to push the product to market if it’s still not stable, here what I mean is big defects should not be happen, small defect still can accept.

For my friend that brought the SonyErricson that having some problem, he take it to SC and the technical teams solve the problem within a day, the technical team just located beside the SC, what a good experience.

Nokia is nice but definitely I’ll not buy Nokia phone for next few years since it give me a poor products and QOS, until the product rating back the consumers confident level again…

Re: N85 Rebooting

Since the rebooting problem persists and the Nokia support center pretends to charge me just for seeing if they have the right version of the software to flush the phone, my only choice is to wait for next firmware upgrade and pray for it to solve my problems.

Does any one have any idea on when next firmware upgrade is going to be release? It has been a while since firmware 11.047 was released.

Greetings
