Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

1: Due to the slider being so loose, it has practicly vibrated it self to peices. I now need to use a handsfree to be able to hear.

2. After updating my phone has about a95% chance of restarting whenever i connect it to my computer. And it usually restarts after abit even if it manages to connext at first.

3. when im listening to music in with my handsfree and i get a sms the music im listening to gets blasted thru the speakers.(both in silent mode and not)

4. if i manage to connect, and i use mass storage, it removes my wallpaper/theme. my playlists, and forces me to repair the musicalbum as its "been damaged"

5. The photo album crashes the phone if u try to have any large amount of pics in there.

these are my main complaints.

Thanks

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

jeffreycs, in my case there were constant beeps and reboots every time I charged my phone and the upgrade seemed to take care of that.

I recommend you to thoroughly test all of the phone's features (bluetooth, camera, GPS, etc), and read the fix list that the firmware update is supposed to take care of. Then you could assess whether you really need it or not.

I have had several Nokia phones which have worked fine out of the box (3250, E65, N81) and I have never updated them. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Also, the new firmware update doesn't bring any new or exciting features to the phone, so one more reason not to do it unless you really need it.

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

thanks for the advise about the firmware. the ver 11 promised better video and camera and a few other update which is not really clear.
anyway some complain that i have after using it for a week is that the sound quiality really dont match the price and the brand nokia n85, its much much worse than n81( n85 suppose to n81 big brother). the battery cover easily get loose and shakey after a while.
and one more thing is the back light will start from dim first and change to normal brightness when u press a button. is that normal or any purpose i really dont know.

confused

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

For the past one week, i have been facing two new problems due to ngage.

1. Sometimes when i am playing a game and i switch to the phone menu, the center key presses wont be recorded and accepted by the phone! The center key presses will work fine as soon as i switch back to ngage, but won't work in the phone menu and applications if ngage is running in the background!

2. Many time, the gaming keys do not work even if i slide the phone. They don't light up, and on starting the games, the key presses won't be recored or detected by the games. I have to restart the phone to get them working.

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

Hello, jeffreycs,

I agree with you, the sound quality is awful. Never heard such high levels of distortion, even when playing digitally remastered mp3 files. That's the major disappointment for me, and I don't think it will be solved ever, not even with a firmware update. Seems to me the low quality of the music player is at the hardware level. At least the GPS and the camera are very good, so that kind of makes up for the rest.

As for the light being dimmed, that's normal behaviour in every N series phone, to maintain battery life. You can adjust the time when the display light will be dimmed in the settings menu. However, I would not recommend it, since your battery will drain even faster than it probably does now.

I was expecting more from this phone, but the low build quality (the battery cover looks ultra frail and rattles, as you mentioned) and the awful slider are major letdowns on this phone.

Currently, Nokia's strategy seems to be:
- giving you a well built product with missing features.
or:
- giving you a mediocre product with lots of features.

I think Nokia should learn from the japanese automakers, who build quality long lasting cars at affordable prices. That's probably why the crisis has hit them less hard than other manufacturers that build **bleep** cars with lots of problems. With money being so scarce and jobs so hard to find, you expect to get your money's worth in every purchase you make nowadays. Not the case with my current phone, though..

Next time I buy a Nokia phone (if I am not disappointed enough for giving them my hard earned money again), I will wait 6 or 7 months and read these forums before making a decission, instead of being an early adopter, as I have been for the last 12 years. I will also look at other brands, which is something I have never considered. That's a sad thing to say, but I have seen a huge decline in quality on the Nokia phones lately. A few years ago, they used to be fantastic devices that surpassed my expectations, with excellent build quality, long lasting, fall resistant and zero problems out of the box.

Now I feel if I ever have an accident with my N85 it will smash to pieces..

Good luck!

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

I'm not able to reply messages when ever I receive a new message from somebody who has turned this feature ON, on my old Nokia 6630, I could easily go to Sending Options in every message & change reply center to my own but I can't find it in N85 & it's really confusing! Is this option removed? And if it is, is there any other way to fix it & change the reply center?
P.S. Nokia developers, please bring this feature back in new Firmwares!!!

I seriously doubt that Nokia is tracking the comments in the discussion forum. The only way to get them to fix any bugs is to log in your complaints via Nokia Care Centre. Even then, there is no guarantee.

My N85 has been in with Nokia Care Centre for 1 and a half weeks and counting.. with no updates from them at all. I have to personally call and chase them for the status of my phone. :smileysad:

Re: Problem nokia n 85 with keypad without light

three more bugs with N85:

1. One-touch dial. Doesn't work. You need to press a number button and after that - a dial (send) button. The first Nokia (after five I had) that needs this.

2. Calendar. Each time I open it, it says "On or more signal missed due to changes in time zone" - without no changes in time zones...

3. Mechanical - lower mono-button that is used to press menu/cancel/shortcuts is slicing away, holding in upper part. Dust that comes from a pocket kills the soft-glue that is used in a phone. I feel in a day or two it will go away at all.

And also - all the calls use the "mobile" icon.

I AM DISSAPPOINTED, NOKIA!

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

N96?  And it's 950mah battery?  C'mon.  12 hours of battery life IF you're lucky.  That, and the plastic body that weighs less than the N85.  I had it, now trying to get rid of it.

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

Regarding the other forum user experience:

dirty solution to Music Player freezing problem is disconnecting earhphones and connect them back.

However it doesn't help much in car (no earphones connected - FM transmit)

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

Hi Fellow N85 sad sacks

My N85 has successfully completed 1 month at the service center, managing to reach L3 or L4 levels and came back with the same "restarting problems".

I have asked for a replacement or my money back.

There is no more trust in a product, that was only 1 month old, and which cannot be serviced by the highest level sevice center

I am planning to go to the consumer court.....if I do not get my money back or a brand new "working" phone  any one care to join me?

Best Regards

Ajith

Re: N85 Issues & Feedback

Hello, ajiths73:

I believe they will replace the phone, but I don't think they will give you your money back..

Once I had a problem with another company (and a laptop) that had a well known defect.

After going after them for 8 months and sending it for repairs twice, they gave me a newer, faster laptop, but they stated they never ever gave any refunds. They showed me their policy and if you don't take the phone back to the distributor before 15 days or a month for a refund, you're at their mercy. At best I believe you could maybe get an upgrade (the fantastic, problem free N96, for example). Keep in mind I was without my laptop for at least 7 of those 8 months and I finally got ahold of a supervisor and kept bombarding him with all my tech support chats and emails, and threatening to take them to a small claims court.

I don't think Nokia's policy will be any different.

Regards,

Another problem i face is with the settings!

Many times, whenever i open the settings, it crashes and exits automatically. I have to open it 3 4 times to be able to use it!
