I bought my N95 8 gb a few days ago and I think I found another bug, I haven't read here about.
Last evening I set up an alarm, so I am not late for my work. Unfortunatey, over night my Nokia turned off somehow, by itself. The battery was fully charged, of course I was late and really angry. I am going to check if the problem occurs again tonight. - any tips how to cope with it?
Another thing is that my Nokia got frozen like 2-3 times already (common problem)
I don't know what to do because I spent a lot of money on that "toy". I really like the phone, but if these problems are going to repeat in the future, I will have to replace or buy different model.
I am really dissapointed, this is my first Nokia ever, before I was using mainly Samsung cell phones and didn't have such a problems...
p.s
I don't exactly know which frimware do I have, but will look for it soon - and maybe there will be any upgrade available for me, hopefully :/

Hi all, I've been running through most of the discussions on the N85 and I don't seem to be able to find a solution to my query.
I noticed that the photos that I take with the N85 all are saved in 400-600kb sizes, although the settings are at 5MB. Therefore, on the phone the photos look sharp but on the computer, it gets a little fuzzy. Anything I can do about this to ensure that the photos that I take are at a bigger size?
Also, any tips on the art of taking clear, sharp indoor pictures?
Thanks in advance.

Just as an update, I went to a Nokia shop and brought this question up to the sales staff. She couldn't answer this question as well and she even took out HER N85 and found that her picture sizes were small. I was quite dissapointed when she says that this is what it can do only, I mean, I paid for a 5MB Camera so why am I only getting less than 1MB pictures in size? Wouldn't it be better if I just buy a 1MB camera phone? Anyone can help solve this mystery?
Thanks in advance

Hello, dlok,
The pictures are really 5 mpx, according to the resolution (2500 x 1900). However, the format in which the pics are saved is highly compressed jpg. That's why they are so small in size. Of course there is a significant quality loss to this.
There is some third party application which captures pictures in raw format. I have not tried it, but I've read it's good.
That being said, I don't understand why Nokia could not include a setting for pictures to be saved in different compression ratios.
Hope this helps!

Subject: Lost my preinstalled applications
When I restored my phone using *#7370#, some of the applications which came preinstalled with my phone (like oxford dictionary) vanished. I had not taken a backup of my phone. Is there any way by which I can restore my lost applications?
Thanks in advance,
Amit

Looking at the new UI and theme on the new FP2 phones, i wonder whether that will be backported to the current genre of FP2 phones.
The N86 has a new Contacts on OVI standby plugin.
All the new FP2 phones have the new icons and really cool themes
Wish 85 gets them too!

hey guys i have question i bought n85 and the camera is too bad why is that

Hi carloseap,
Thanks for the response. I've also gotten 2 replies from Nokia and they more or less confirmed that the size of photos in the phone will be quite small. Kind of makes me regret getting this phone as the camera function was a major factor and for the price, my wife's phone (which is cheaper and from a competitor company) actually has a much better camera function.
Having said that, at least the photos that i can see in the phone is very clear and sharp and so, i guess the 8MB storage would have to be my photo album... at least until Nokia comes out with an upgrade on their software. (wishful thinking?).

Hey hussam,
If you meant that the camera is bad because the picture you see on your desktop is not clear, that's is because the size of the picture is quite small and therefore you'll get a blurred out image... at least that's the problem i'm facing. on the phone, the picture is qute clear and sharp

Hello, dlok,
Forget what I mentioned about the program that saves pictures form the camera in raw (uncompressed) format. I have just tried it. It does not work, unfortunately.
I am more or less satisfied with the picture quality. The autofocus feature takes ages to be ready.. At least during daytime the pictures are very sharp and clear, and the colors very vivid. I don't expect a cell phone to be as good as my 10 mpx digital camera, but I want to be able to take decent pictures with it, at least..
We will see what the N86 brings, it's supposed to have 8mpx, a different lens but NO xenon flash which is stupid..
In the meantime we're stuck with the N85.
I am seriously thinking about selling mine. It's not that bad, but not what I expected, the only good thing is the OLED screen.
Cheers!

At first, my only real problem with my N85 was that contact names don't show up in the text message inbox.
Now this morning it froze for the first time while using the Music Player (I had to restart by removing the battery... the power button was frozen too.) - Then the Navi-Wheel stopped working after I re-started it & took another re-start before it started to respond properly.
Here I was thinking I'd gotten one of the good ones after reading through this thread last week & hearing some of the problems people are experiencing. ![]()
One other thing I might add is that when the keypad backlight turns off, it takes two key presses to get a key to respond - one press to turn the backlight back on, the second press to actually register the key... annoying. ![]()
I'd desperately love for this phone to perform to it's potential & hope we can see a firmware update very soon that will sort some of these issues out.

You might want to try this, It solved my Issue with the photogallery not showing my pictures.
Back up your data on your phone!
For those that are updating from earlier version than 11.047:
Install your 11.047 software through PC Suit, NOT through your phone.
(When you are installing through the phone you only upgrade your firmware.)
For those who already updated their software to 11.047:
Reinstall your software through PC Suit. This way it rebuilds the installation not upgrading the present installation.
The Issues were known at the Nokia support. And where going to be fixed in the next version. Soon to come he said, been months since last release.
According to the Nokia support center (Sweden) the updates sometimes comes through PC Suit before the updateservice through your phone.
Hope it helps someone, Excuse my bad English!

Issue: N85 Log shows a mobile icon for every call, even telephone nos in contacts
Man, the N85 is plagued with a hell lot of bugs!! I just noticed this one today.
If this bug exists in your phone too, please drop a post and let nokia know.
Even if you save a number in a contact as a telephone number, if you call up that number and then check the log, all the calls display a mobile icon, instead of a telephone icon for telephone numbers.

I have the exact problem!!! It makes it so confusing & sometimes make me call wrong numbers!!!
& there is something more, while sending a message, there is no option to change message center for a particular message...
