N82 and RealVideo

Hi I read the spec that says N82 support playback RealVideo 8/9/10 video format. But I would like to know what file format it accepts? Same as PC's .RM and .RMVB? Has anyone tried before?

Re: N82 and RealVideo

Yes it works,

Resolution must be less than QVGA 320x240 and the bitrate has to be less than 256 kbps.

both .rm and .rmvb have been known to work in Nseries devices.

Re: N82 and RealVideo

And they will be obsolete soon, WMV, MP4, H.264 (particularly) will be the only standard. (oops something called 3GP will still run:smileymad:)

Re: N82 and RealVideo

I tried using my normal .rm file in my mobile .. the clarity was superb but the video playback was so slow as if I used an old Pentium II comp to run the video.

Can anyone check out and suggest good video conversion software and settings for real video playback?

I was trying to real producer to make optimum quality real videos which detected my settings to be 320x240 and 227kbps bitrate with audio 64kbps .. seems as good as it gets right?

Dunno why the playback still sucked ..

Check out my blog:

IF you are going to convert video then convert to H264 or MPEG-4 as Realvideo is not very good IMHO.

+1 to H246 and MPEG-4 .... Real Media is out..... H264 is IN

Re: N82 and RealVideo

As the other said.
You could also try and use the DivX codec for your conversions. It's MPEG-4 compressing. Use any tool for encoding the video with the DivX codec and then transfer it to your memorystick.

I've succesfully played a 640x480 1024kbit videostream without lag on my N82 - however there was no sound. I guess it was because the sound was encoded with 700kbit PCM. For best performance though, I guess it will be best to keep the overall stream (video+sound) below 512kbit.

Download the video player here: www.divx.com/mobile/ :smileywink:

Re: N82 and RealVideo

Actually MPEG-4 works best in Nokia devices, in terms of compatibility and also in terms of battery life.

Re: N82 and RealVideo

Hey guys .. can you please advise as to the best compression/quality that you can get? I mean .. like the file I used was abt 25 mins anime real video .. it was 320x240 and size of 30 MB with amazing quality..

Is lesser size of nearly the same quality possible with other formats? (Iam still surprised as to how real videos have really low sizes as compared to the quality) ..

Re: N82 and RealVideo

What RV seems to do better than other codecs is that it adapts itself to the hardware that it's running it. So it will lower the bitrate or skip frames or whatever to try to keep some quality level.

RV does seem to be really good at size vs. quality but it also has some major drawbacks. IMHO.

The next best option (in Nseries devices) would be to use H264 QVGA at around 256 kbps bitrate. This will yield a similar quality than the RV that you had but I believe the size may be bigger.

If you really like RV then I suggest you get RealProducer Plus, this will allow you to create all kinds of RV files from digital sources, analog sources (if you have a video card) and also transcode from other video sources.

Re: N82 and RealVideo

Thanks a lot for the info.. If its not too much to ask .. I would be really grateful if you can suggest me the ideal Video conversion settings for RV in N82 and a good converter .. (unfortunately the real producer plus does nothing with an existing RV file) ..

Re: N82 and RealVideo

easy!

Go to www.divx.com, and download the divx bundle including divx convertor.

Install the bundle, and start the convertor. Set the mode to 'mobile', then drag and drop any videos you want to convert

You will also need to download the divx mobile player for s3 (link earlier in this thread)

Once complete - just copy to your memory card on your phone, and fire up the divx player!

forget realplayer

Cheers, Baz

Re: N82 and RealVideo

Divx works but since it's not a native codec there are many limitations when using them on the device.

They are good, but H264 is better in Nseries devices.
