Hi,

I have a N82 and want to reinstall its firmware without using any other tool as it may wipe the Warranty details.

Here is the scenario 01:

OS: Windows 7 32bit Ultimate with Administrator rights

Connected over: USB Original Datab cable.

Battery: Full

Phone: Reset to Factory defaults and prepared to work fine.

Antivirus: shut down and closed.

System tasks: almost closed all of them

Installed:

>>Nokia PC Suite

then

>>Nokia Software Updater.

Checked for the update. No Update but also no option to reinstall the firmware.

>>Installed Nokia Ovi

After scanning got the option to reinstall the device software aka firmware.

Clicked it and it downloaded the firmware package from nokia server and game me three preparatory alert. It was fine.. Then did the back up. Done too. After that it start the installation step. In that It say Preparation and then installing software, before anything happens to N82 it Nokia Ovi just disconnect the mobile and on the installation Process it is written " Installation failed".

Uninstalled Nokia PC suite, Nokia Software Updater and tried again with Ovi. Same thing. Restarted PC many times while closing the system tasks that are not needed same thing.

Scenario 02:

OS: Windows XP Pro Sp3 with Administrator rights

Connected over: USB Original Datab cable.

Battery: Full

Phone: Reset to Factory defaults and prepared to work fine.

Antivirus: Not installed

System tasks: Fresh installed

Installed:

Nokia Ovi

Tried to go through same process to reinstall firmware but when I click to check for the updates I don't get an option to reinstall the firmware. Tried it many times even after restarting the machine.

Then installed Nokia Software Updater.

Same thing as Window 7. No Update and also no option to reinstall the firmware.

Installed Nokia PC suite just as a thought of any missing file needed to run the update process. But nothing changed.

Now kindly tell me HOW to install the firmware as now I just want to reinstall the firmware and sell this Nokia **bleep**.

I am fed up of this and trying from last three days.

Product Is having T -D1 Germany branding unlocked and I am also located in the same country.

just do a soft or a hard reset. It will reinstall your firmware and wipe the C drive.
Type *#7370# in standby. Then dial the lock code (default is 12345).

I did that but it is not doing the complete hard reset. It returns to the same funtions with the same data in it and I have dont it right. With the code *#7370# and also with Green Button (Call) + * + 3 and power on.

Also isnt there any option to do it with Nokia provided PC software? Is Nokia done with its mobiling hype?

what do you mean when you say that "it returns to the same functions with the same data in it"?

note that N82 can be formated only by reseting it (soft or hard reset). if you reinstall or update N82's firmware, you will lose no data!

I just really cant get it why no one can tell me how it is possible with pc. Why trying to get shortcuts and screwing mobile with other ways around?

EVEN IF YOU MANAGE TO REINSTALL YOUR FIRMWARE THROUGH PC, YOUR PHONE WILL NOT BE LIKE "OUT OF BOX"! N82 has UDP (User Data Preversation)

The bit that puzzles me most is keeping Green Button (Call) + * + 3 depressed and power on whilst keeping those three keys depressed until Nokia "shaking hands" appears that doesn't wipe the data from your N82.

and not only this... the *#7370# code doesn't work too(as he said)... this puzzles me too.

 what does keeping Green Button (Call) + * + 3 depressed and power on wile keeping those three keys do to your phone is it a hard reset or soft reset

i don't know why you are not able to reinstall your firmware through pc... i have managed to reinstall my N82's firmware through pc several times...

anyway, if you still want to reinstall firmware, you can do it by those codes;

Soft reset(reformat). Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code (Nokia's default lock code is 12345). Soft reset wipes the C drive.

Hard reset. Switch the phone off. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the * key and the number '3'. While you are holding these keys, switch the phone on. Don't release these three keys before you see the NOKIA logo.
Warning! Hard reset wipes the C (phone memory) drive.
