Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

Check what services you have turned on. Such as:
is your wifi scan on? is your GPS navigation running? is your bluetooth on? do you use bt strereo headset? these are ones i can think of first.

First thing you could check is your battery: is it a real Nokia battery? I have purchased my N82 in Taiwan, and they gave me some local make battery as extra, in addition to original Nokia one.
That battery lasts next to nothing, so not much use for it, besides that they've sold the phone with it to me.

Hi sobharam

If my N82 is just on standby with Bluetooth on and Wireless Keyboard application running low battery warning appears in about 16 hours.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

Hello All,

Yeah the N82 seems to drain more juice than any of the older sisters an brothers, N73 for example. The processor for the N82 is much faster an demands a lot of current to operate, Some reviews says its a 400Mhz, some 320Mhz, anyway both are guzzlers.
Unless you have it for standby and occasionally use the phone, it wil last 3 days tops, mostly mine will have to be charged after the 2nd day nitetime so the next day I'll have fresh power.
So expect to charge it daily, and it is normal for this phone.

Good day

It is better to charge when the phone blinks a warning. Thereby you increase the battery life.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

'Lo there,

Yeah, I have to say I'm not satisfied with the power usage on this baby, at all. Sure it has 2 cpus (see specs), sure nice graphics, camera *with slash*, bt, wifi, etc .. But as soon as you start using these features, and god forbid you forget to say switch off your wifi scanning off or the like, the phone just starts turns into a power drain.
I find myself on many occasions reaching for the phone just to find that it has starved itself and turned off.

My previous phone was Nokia 9500, the ol communicator. Bulky, ugly brick, by nowdays standards, but I'm still impressed with its power management. That phone even now with old battery, still lasts for 3 days of good usage.

I'm not saying those phones are really comparable. N82 is obviously your whole multimedia system & more in a pocket.

But I find that features-to-power-usage/management on this phone forces me to always stay close to power sockets.

Battery needs in N82 needs a thorough overhaul given the phone is feature loaded. Lets hope with firmware fixes whether Nokia is able improve the power management and increase talk time & standby time.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

Just to add something here.

As soon as the battery level reaches "one bar", or, about 14% (as NSysNfo says), the phone starts beeping warning sounds.
Even if left in standby mode, it keeps on beeping, and relatively quite fast dies afterwards.
It won't even last through the night (7 hours or so), when at this low level and with nothing turned on, and in standby.

With 9500 Nokia, first time it starts beeping, usually tells me I could leave it in standby mode for 'bout 24 hours or close.

Now, the really annoying surprise I got from N82 is that, once it turned itself off because of low power, the clock's alarm also won't come up.
Perhaps I should request as a feature, for N82 to save some power so that your alarm clock works.

With 9500, the phone functionality turns off when power is very low (not sure if it has 2 cpus, one for pda functions one for phone). But the rest of the phone (bare essentials?) can still function, like your alarm clock.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

I do not know if you have resolved your battery drain issue but I THINK I KNOW THE ANSWER!!!

THE PROBLEM!! (Background)
I recently had my cell phone battery start draining really fast. As in, it went from lasting at least 3 days to less than 12 hours in a matter of 2 months! The only difference in my activity is that I started using WLAN. People kept advising to turn off WLAN Scanning, which I had off all the time anyway so that did not solve my problem.

My battery life bar would literally drop 2-3 bars at the same time, or sometimes go from full to 1 bar in one go.

THE ANSWER!!
I started then to remove things from the cell, starting with ACCESS POINTS (found in Tools --> Settings --> Connection --> Access Points, used for WLAN). I found that I had a huuuuuuuuuuge list (approx 30 items) of Access points from using WIFI from various places over the last 2 months that I started using WLAN. After removing the long list (Even with WLAN Scanning Off all the time) my battery life increased again! I have not had to recharge over the last 2 days and the battery only lost 1 bar since! Great improvement!

Give it a try! It may solve your problem as well. Saved myself $30+ from not having to buy a new battery, which would probably not have solved my problem!

The issue seems to be that the N82 seems to repeatedly try to connect to certain access points even when WLAN is off!

Check the log: menu>tools>log and you can see if this is happening and with which AP.

You can then delete that AP in: menu>tools>settings>connections>access points.

N82 dont search for unknown networks unless it is made to search.
I dont have any problem regarding to this!
Please reply for my posts also! Thanks in advance.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

You may want to check your network coverage. If your signal is constantly weak, your phone is likely taking up a lot more power to try and get a better signal. I tried taking out my SIM card (ie: so it won't search for network) and the battery went from lasting 12 hours to 3 days, and is still full charged now.

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

for those of you who are having battery problems, are you guys using a microSD greater than 2GB? Just from switching back to a 2GB from a 6GB (keeping all existing applications), my battery life almost tripled

Re: N82 Battery failure!anybody help...???

I think the problem with the N82 attempting to connect to access points when WLAN is visibly switched off to the user, and without notifying the user at all is the problem. I checked my log and it had been doing the same thing. Still testing it as to whether deleting that access point will increase my battery life again.

Are there any applications that can improve on the built in logging capabilities to check this, and perhaps one that can give better read outs from the battery? As in capacity, manufacturer date, percentage remaining. Thanks.
