Hi, I've been doing a lot of research on the internet about the N80, i think i just love it!, Firstly my question is, Is the phone stable with the latest firmware, and really be honest about this because i don't want to have another dissapointing phone, Could you tell me the latest version of firmware for it so when i buy it, i know which one.
Any help will be appreciatted (especially taffy's help) :smileytongue:

Hey, To be honest since I have had the new FW the phone has been a lot better. The battery will never be a record breaker and the bluetooth is still poor if you leave it switched on. I can now back up my phone using the phone back up. Since I have had it, this is the best it's been. If you don't mind the few imperfections in the FW then it's definitely a good one. The only downside is that you will have to change your name lol.
As for the FW the version I have is V4.0623.0.41

Re: N80 is it stable?

It's a wonderful device and user friendly. I'm a fifty something none techi and have managed to install applications, drop it do a hard reset etc. I've even dressed it up with phone jewellery. On a more serious note i change my phones about every two months but i like this one because it's so versatile and have had it for three months now and have no desire to change it. You can change it's look with any type of theme, use it like a pocket pc or phone. I had one or two issues but received excellent advice on this site which resolved them. From what i've read on this site it seems very popular like the n73. I tried the n73 which is similar but preferred the slide out keyboard.

Re: N80 is it stable?

If it is charged every night then it's generally ok. 1 and a half days I get but have recently turned the power saver back on. I have to turn the phone upside down as the blu flashing light drives me crazy. Oh yeah I keep bluetooth off too, for two reasons, one it saves power and two it won't connect to my headset properly if it has been on all day.

I heard that you may soon be able to download the N80ie software/firmware before long anyway. As for the camera, it is poor at best but could this be improved by new FW? is auto focus hardware or software?

Re: N80 is it stable?

the n80 has come a far way since the initial launch....to me it is arguably the most stable Nseries on the market....
i have updated the N80 the correct way via nokia to the internet edition...(go to nokia usa site and follow the instructions)
some tips for battery....
dont keep BT on
change the brightness of screen
turn on your power saver
turn off dual band to "gsm only" if you arent gonna be using 3g alot...yeah its a bit of an inconvenience but(lol)
keep wifi off
with these little tips you should get nearly 2 days...
but if you are a power user like me buy one of those small portable chargers the one that works from batteries it will come in hell of good....

Re: N80 is it stable?

Hi 6280, first, I must admit that I am a big fan of Sony Ericsson, my last 3 phones were SE (T616, K750, W810), all of them, fantastic phones, fantastic UI, great features, when I was looking to buy K800 I discovered the N80. In the past I have a few Nokias but this is my first Symbian, and really must say that I´m very happy with it, better signal strength, better reception (SE candy bar phones have a big issue with noise filtering thru the mic). It´s running V 4.0623.0.41, and to be honest, I´m really afraid to upgrade (until IE Edition FW available), since the phone is working very well, I have not issues and other problems reported, even more, I use the phone with a Nokia BH-800 headset and I´m very happy with both of them.
The battery, yes, sure, is the down side of the phone, I think that Nokia can come with an extended battery to make all N80´s owners happier, but if you follow roberth´s advice the battery life is not so bad (with 4 hours day with bluetooth on, I managed to get around 2 days of stand by). Hope help, and sure my next will be Nokia and of course N95...Regards

I couldn't find the way of getting the software updated on the usa site. Where is it?

I tried downloading the usa updater but as soon as I run the application installer it says that there was a problem encountered and asks if I want to send an error report. What am I doing wrong? I will try and use the UK one to install the IE firmware. Thanks anyway.
Oh yeah, the french one will install but doubt this would have the IE stuff.

Re: N80 is it stable?

I had my firmware on the n80 updated to firmware 4 at a NSC but then used the n80 over wi fi to update the last part which it did perfectly so now its version 4with 42 at the end. I think this is the latest version.
I use the n80 on full brightness and find the battery life fine. I also have installed some of the lamour themes which really make this phone more girly-i discovered these when i got a 7373 whih i also enjoy. i think the n80 is really adaptable. I like the fact that it's a pda type gadget but with a lamour theme a bit of jewellery it is just like most other phones-even quite cute. my partner also used it before i dressed it up a bit and he also liked the device. I agree that the camera doesn't seem to take the quality pictures you'd expect for 3mp my 7373 on 2mpg does just as well but they are still acceptable.
