N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

I have what seems to be a problem that my N80 cannot connect to WLAN in the house at the location where my laptop does it with no problem. Does anyone know if it is "normal" or something is wrong with the phone I have? Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

Does the WLAN appear at when you press Search for WLAN at the "Select access point" when trying to use a service that require internet access?

If it does, do you have "security" enabled on your WLAN-router, that is that you only let in specified MAC-addresses. If so, you must enter the MAC-address of your phone in to the router. *#62209526# should give you the mac-address.

Additionally, I have had some issues with my phone and DHCP, maybe setting your phone to use a fixed IP address on the network might help.

Re: N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

Thank you - it is all ok with WLAN detection, authentication, etc. The problem seems to be a signal strength. Closer to wireless router it is all fine with connectivity; once you are far enough – N80 loses connection. However any laptop does not. Is it normal?

Re: N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

Hi Alex,

Yes. I believed that its a common problem. N80 does appears to have a much shorter range.

Personally, I find that anything below medium is unuseable.

2 cents feedback. Cheers. ^_^

I have started to have this problem recently, but just a week ago my N80 actually had as good WLAN reception as my laptop. I don't know what is going on, but WLAN reception has gone down, and I'm unable to get any 3G access at all (which also worked well a week ago). It doesn't look promising.

Re: N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

Thanks a lot pfloding for your input. It seems though to be a different problem - your phone suddenly drops quality of 3G and WLAN communications. I would definitely have contacted Nokia or whoever sold you this baby ‘cause from what you describe it looks faulty to me.

I don't think it is a hardware problem, as battery life, 3G reception and WLAN suddenly works much better. My guess is that something in the WLAN implementation causes the phone to go into some kind of fruitless loop, wasting battery and interfering with 3G. I have turned of the WLAN setting "Show availability" now (WLAN works fine anyway), and so far things seem better!

Re: N80 - WLAN - connectivity problem

Hello there I was reading your comments and I thought you might be able to help me to connect my N80 to my home network. I just spoke to someone from orange -which are my ISP so i've got the livebox- and they said that I need to buy a bluetooth adaptor for my laptop to be able to connect it. I can't undrestand why? If anyone can help me please I would appreciate a lot. Thank you.
