maps are mirrored & north is down on the screen? Why????

I'm not sure if im understanding you correct but maybe its because your facing south thats might be why north is on the bottom. can you put a picture on here?

Once you get the GPS Lock.. Tap once on the compass icon  and it will show North UP again tapping the compass will show Destination up..

When you first open the Maps application, select 'My Location' allow phone to lock then tap compass icon. It will be red, flick the phone to about 45 degrees a couple of times and the compass should turn green , this action calibrates the compass, it will now point north as you move the direction of the phone !
