Re: N8 Symbian Anna

I really hope Anna is going to fix the mailclient, not only for people using gmail and hotmail, but also for personal domains so we can set up standard imap. To this date im using md, a third party client thats havent been updated since 30.02.

I cant see how nokia is making it so difficult, in android and ios this not a problem at all.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

I agree better to wait for a reliable OS/UI than something buggy,

On another note, does anybody know if Anna will support flac files?

because everybody els does it, comparing too other brands, nokia is one of the most loyal updaters (not saying fastest). Even older models still get love years after.

@nokuzer - iphone people with 3.5 inch screens have no trouble with their portrait qwerty, also other Androids. However the N8 does have a narrower screen than iPhones despite being both at 3.5inches.

About the other OS, I use Android as well (got two phones). One thing is that there are good and bad things about both systems. For me there is no "better" OS between the two. I would have preferred Symbian menu structure (hierarchical folders), but I like Android homescreens and customizable widgets better. Basically, the only difference is that Android has more app developers compared to Symbian, and Android phones have better CPU/GPU chipsets.

I guess you do nt care about typing fast. Portrait qwerty on all 3.5' devices including Android, is too slow, lots of mistakes and not as fast+easy as landscape mode. I guess if you want to punch the characters slowly portrait qwerty is for you.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

chanchan, you've forgotten to say that Droids are way more stable than Symbian, have much faster internet and a far better internet integration.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

@Mojito -

1 More Stable - false. My unrooted Samsung Galaxy SL has frozen on me requiring a battery pull more than 4 times this past month. My 5800 on my second network did not need that even once in the same past time frame. Android is very much fragmented due to differing hardware and chipsets across manufacturers, even within manufacturer lines. Its much more likely to encounter an app that would cause problems on your phone (but not for other phones) on Android that on Symbian. A prime example would be the game "Falling Fred". On a Samsung Galaxy S, it works smoothly, but on an HTC Evo, even with the killer hardware, its lagging, as seen on videos. (Thing that lag may eventually cause freeze ups too).

2. Faster Internet - false. Faster internet on Droids are simply due to better hardware. Almost all droids have a 3G antenna with a 7.2mbps max capacity speed, while older Nokias have 3.2mbps max capacity. The new S^3 phones of Nokia have 10mbps max capacity. So everything now depends on your provider.

3. Better Internet Integration - True, but then Google is an internet based company, thus they are able to provide themselves with some of the best Internet services (google services) by default.

@Mojito - I'd suggest stop being a sour puss. Not everything about Android is better. Even Ovi Maps navigation> Google Maps navigation simply due to the fact that Ovi Maps has more navigable countries than Google. The very fact that its fragmented to the extent it is is making creating its bugs. I'm actually happy that Nokia did not go with Android, as it will make things even more fragmented than it is now.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

@nokuzer - It just takes getting used too. I dont have much mistakes on portrait qwerty, and I type pretty fast. I am actually having a hard time on landscape. Although it may be because I have a 4incher screen which makes reaching near the middle letters a bit more difficult.

Sometimes I actually doubt he even owns the devices he praise. On several Android forums, even SGS2 users have certain issues.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

chanchan, again: Droid is more stable than Symbian. It's TRUE. Of my both SGS none froze any single time. The both are rooted and have more than 200 apps installed. I can easily terminate every app that hangs. All of my two latest Nokia were freezing sometimes.

Faster Internet: TRUE. Better coding. Even on PC the fastest browser is Chrome. The Symbian browser is simply ugly and awakward.

Re: N8 Symbian Anna

@Mojito - I know I said I wont answer you replies, but I simply cant help it. You boast of a rooted SGS when rooting a Droid is the equivalent of flashing a Symbian with CFW. So basically, since there are CFW for Symbian which are faster, more stable less bugs and less bloatware than official Symbian, you are using an unfair comparison. Compare it with CFW since you are using a rooted version. Rooting is just another term for hacking. I seem to remember you bashing Symbian for needing hacks and CFW to work better, and then you're shooting yourself in the foot since you rooted your droid, something you hated on Symbian? Second, majority of Droid owners dont even know what rooting is.

On internet, I find no difference between Opera Mobile on Droid to Opera Mobile on Symbian. Default Droid browser is just well, I dont like it. Basically, you can argue about default browsers, but with apps, but basically the only real difference between surfing on Droid and Symbian is the browser app, nothing more, nothing to do with the OS itself. Get Opera Mobile for Symbian and problem solved. All my friends with Droids dont use the default browser anyway, and since Droid Opera = Symbian Opera, means there's no difference.
