Nokia, if you are reading this, please can you arrange a refund or exchange my N8 handset for an iphone. I'm now on my 2nd N8 handset. The first constantly locked up and eventually died within 3 days and wouldn't even charge. The second won't allow me to make phone calls as holding the phone against my cheek causes the call to either be put on hold or terminated. In fact, when I tried it this evening it even went into camera mode. This just isn't good enough and I hope anybody reading this will realise the N8 is a waste of time & money. Sorry, but I'm just asking for basic functionality that the handset can actually be used to make a phone call.
If anyone from Nokia is reading this and actually cares as you used to over the past 12 years I've used your handests, please issue an update NOW as this is an absolutley hopeless situation. Otherwise I'm leaving for another brand... sorry but the N8 is garbage and judging by the feedback on this forum... you know it !!!!
Thank you,
R

I am sorry that you have had a couple of duff handsets but that doesn't make the N8 a rubbish phone as you suggest.
It might make Nokia's quality control or manufacturing standards rubbish but the N8, when it works, is a superb phone.
I had 2 faulty C7 handsets and switched to the N8 with my 3rd and my N8 hasn't missed a beat since I got it a week ago.
So, by all means criticise Nokia for selling us faulty phones but don't criticise the N8 in that way because that just isn't true.

SnaxMuppet,
Are you saying you can make phone calls without features on the screen being acitivated by pressing against your face? There's a whole bunch of people on these forums complaining about the proximity sensor... and I don't mean by activiating the lock switch during the call? I've spent a lot of time tesing this, and can confirm the proximity sensor only lasts on three activations and then the screen is left unlocked.

I actually traded my Iphone to N8. I haven`t had any issues with N8, it simply is a great phone with a lot of functionality Iphone can only dream of. Pretty much the only advantage Iphone has over N8 is smoother interface. I have had my N8 for two and half months now. I for one am not volunteering to trade functionality for a bit smoother interface (which I hope will be dealt with in January update.
Too bad you had a bummer. I don´t know if this forum is the best way to contact Nokia. I think it might me more productive to email them or contact the store that sold you the faulty phones.

I have used & misused my N8 for weeks now, normal phone use, navigation, music (+++ for the fm transmitter!), internet, mail, usb transfers to\from pc\memory stick, lot's of multitasking etc, it's working great, hardly ever turned it off, has never hanged or misbehaved in any way whatsoever.

I tried hard to make this happen by abusing it during a call, impossible to make it fail whatever I did, the proximity sensor worked perfect.

Not on my n8, In the above test I tried like 25 times in a row, never failed.
The N8 is great...I know it !
) But there are defective units out there, as some have experienced. Get it serviced or exchanged.

I have been using N8 for nearly 2 and half months and there is absolutely no problems. The sensor works quite right and there is no problem with the call getting disconnected or anything of that sort.
Infact i feel that this is the best phone i have ever had in my had.
I am sure there are some defective phones that has come to the market. The only reason that i can think of is that because of the demand they just had to bring too many phones in the market and some of them are really faulty ones.
N8 is just awesome. if u get a peice that works well with out fault, then u can appreciate N8 and i wanted to buy either an Iphone or HTC Desire / HD2 phones but now i am really happy that i got N8. Trust me i am an extremely happy customer and i use almost all features that it has.

Hi all.
I've read about the proximity sensor issue some people are having and actually
witnessed it happen when my daughter used my N8 to make a call. She ended up putting her
friend on hold. However it's never happened to me so I can only conclude it's the way she was holding the phone.
What I did do though was to lower the sensitivity of the light sensor which solved that problem, but has made the screen slightly darker now and not as bright. The upside to that though is increased battery life.
Maybe it's a bug in Symbian 3 which might get fixed in future updates.
Cheers.

To every one having issues with your N8, go to the repair center. Thats what they are there for, to fix your issues. It seems to me that plenty of people are having a great time with their N8s me included, but many aren't i urge you to go to these repair centers and get your devices looked at before giving up on the brand.
Have a great day!
NCC wont and definitely cant help with bad browser, S^3 users need to wait for better browser which comes with new firmware update.
