to rasmus: you made me think about the closed battery concept once more.
Really: what if the device software will "hang down to death"?! How can I reset the power on it without an ability to remove the battery?!..
Sounds like "oops!". it seems, that I should forget my passion to device software "fine tuning" w/ custom applications, tricks and optimizations... One strong application crash or strong hang up - and I need service center... that is bad.

12 MP camera.. TOO LATE! N97 should've had 12MP!
NON REMOVABLE BATTERY??? ARE YOU KIDDING NOKIA!???
I have both N97 and N900 and since I have bought them " I HAVE NEVER CHARGED THEM!" not even once! I have spare battery and wall charger I always replace the battery and never ever charge them!
Ps.. If you cannot remove battery on a phone like N900 that means everyday at least twice it will stay on a desk for hours! I buy the device to use it Nokia! I think with the N97 you have totally lost what NOKIA means..
Pity.

Its not yet even certain that this thing has a non-removable battery and you guys are crying FAIL. I wonder if it turns out the battery is removable...As said before (I think it was psychomania) who said it, keep in mind that these are just stil in prototype versions.
There have been cases of prototype models being made and changed at the last minute (sudden addition of flash, slight redesign, etc).

I know it says that, but then I've seen products changed after being released to product testers (granted though Nokia's test community last year sucked and missed a lot of bugs).
But if this thing had non removable batteries, I'd be seriously rethinking buying this. What about the battery pull reset???

And speaking about the hardware specs, the N8 make use of the Nvidia Tegra? More specifically Tegra 600 Arm11 MPCore?

God help you lot when the phone is ACTUALLY available, you'll probably all burst a blood vessle !!! It's not even released yet, very few people have ever touched one, save your complaints for when you've tried one and the problem occurs. If the specs are correct, it looks good, it's not the phone for me, but it looks good. When there are a few thousand USERS praising or criticising it, form an opinion then.
Oh, and have a pleasant evening ![]()

I am satisfied user of E90 ( my 3th communicator from 2000 ). Now waiting for new generation, maybe N8. Together with external keyboard SU 8W serve me E90 more or less as notebook on the roads. Does anybody know, whether N8 would work with SU 8W even there is new Symbian OS, or whether there are other similar external accessories ?

And where's voip? there's nothing abt voip on official specs. I can't understand why nokia make these stupid decisions. This's a high end phone. Software and hardware both are capable of handling voip then why it's not there?
I bought nokia n8900 n i regret i decided to go for it. it was a complete waste of money but there's only one reason i'm using this phone at home only. And that's voip. I never take this phone out.
I've been using nokia phones for the last 10 years but now nokia's disappointing me. i'm looking forward for the same type of voip support as in n900. If it's not there then my choice'll be iPhone. ALthough iPhone doesn't have voip support but it never ever miss any user input from screen. And you know how much nokia n900 resoonds to user input. This's **bleep**. A complete **bleep**. For me, if a touch screen device misses even one touch out of 1000. It's not acceptable.
If my most wanted feature, voip, is not there then i'm not going to compromise on anything else.
You got it nokia?

Non-removable battery? Well, that's the N8 off my Christmas list then. How stupid.

The non removable battery is why we already hate the iBricks, the 3G would not even last through an 8 hour workday.
I would no consider a smart phone with a non removable battery. I too think that's an utterly dumb move, another example of "function follows form" instead of the other way around.
On the other hand the N8 might still be a step up from the N97, but then again, that isn't very hard to achieve, just keep the N8 from crashing and freezing all the time.

Only thing i am worry about is OS S*3.
Hopefully its not buggy as 5800 or N97.
Hopefully they work on it more n make less bugy and more responsive n smooth.
My 5800 crashes mostly every day, n its response is slow as hell.
Only thing i am looking forward to is major change in OS.

After looking through the specs it is clear that nokia is going in a right direciton... but you guys tell me a few things
1) what good is the HD recording when you cant have the HD sccreen itself in first case to watch these beautiful videos
2) battery life is still an issue to me, because i would be using this phone even more than earlier. (it looks like a right contender for replacing my N82)
3) Many of you have commented about AMOLED screen, hope you know that you cannot see the AMOLED screen contents in direct sunlight. (most of videos shown / pictures come across are in direct sunlight) what's the use of such a screen?
4) the battery is replacable, good thing but battery capacity is still my gripe.
5) MeeGo/Maemo could have been a better choice of OS as it's mature and fairly stable.
