I know what that's like, running out of ideas. You did fine. The rest is up to Nokia.
OFF TOPIC: I'm running out of ideas on Windows Vista to make it work properly on my notebook. Installed the Windows 7 RC [Release Candidate] and it works like a charm! Can't wait to get rid of Vista for good! [October 23rd]

I have noticed the same issue.
N85 otherwise successfully upgraded from 11.047 to 20.175, except that the music player is no longer able to show track numbers for music albums, but instead shows and plays them in the alphabetical order of the tracks.
Extremely annoying, as this worked correctly in the previous firmware version.
Can someone please advise me on how to "officially" report this bug to manufacturer?

Me to! I'm another N85 owner with exactly the same problem.
Come on Nokia, sort it out!

Right i have reported this to Nokia, this is what i have sent to them.
"The problem is with a NOKIA N85 which doesn't seem to be on the "Product" list of the form. My problem also seems to affect a lot of N79 users.
I recently downloaded and installed the most recent firmware for my N85, version 20.175.
The problem is with Nokia Music Player. When i add songs to the library, all info about track numbers is corrupted and all my songs are just listed in alphabetical order instead of track 1, track 2, track 3, track 4 etc.
I have tried using different file types, MP3, WMA(variable and fixed bitrates), and AAC. I have also tried various USB modes to see if this helps solve my problem. I have used Windows Media Player, and Nokia PC suite to sync my music but yet we still have this problem.
I have formatted my memory card, reset the phone, even done the hard and soft phone reset commands and the problem is still there,
Is there anything we can do to solve this problem?
There is a discussion on the Nokia Support Discussins about this /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&th
Thanks for your help."
I have only just sent this so i will let you all know when i get a response.
PLEASE, if you have this fault, report it to Nokia, the more people who report it, the more likely it should get fixed. To contact Nokia direct, click on the following link, http://www.nokia.co.uk/get-support-and-software/re

I noticed this too and posted about it in the software updates forum

My workaround is as follows:
Using mp3tag (and working with *copies* of my music, not original rips)

Just to let you guys know: I, too, have reported the bug to Nokia through the Contact Us web form. I even got a nice reply saying that "they'll look into it".
I urge everyone else to do this as well, using this page
or any other regional flavour of the Nokia web site (navigate to Support - Contact Us)
Re: some of the "workaround" solutions... ROTFL Please be serious. If you have 75 gigs / 9500 files / 850 hours worth of audio that you shuffle between several devices, like me, you DO NOT edit them manually. This is a bug in the new version of the firmware and needs to get fixed. Fast.

Tommi

mp3tag will let you update the tags in a single operation. Just point it at the root of the music directory, set up your actions and away you go.
Admittedly I don't have as much music as you, but 15gb only took a couple of minutes.
Previous versions of the firmware caused my music player to lock up regularly (you had to remove the headphones to fix it) and it took Nokia more than 6 months to fix that, so I'm not holding my breath for a quick update fixing this one (hope to be proved wrong though!)

I am sorry, but it doesn't make any sense, even though it's technically very easy to do. I don't intend to deliberately corrupt my files' metadata with incorrect information. Not only because doing so will mess up other services and/or devices, but mainly because I don't want to see the song called "Insomnia" as "01 Insomnia", and repeat that error throughout my entire music collection.
My workaround is to use other (non-Nokia) devices for listening to music. Of course this efficiently neuters one of the most important features that made me choose N85 in the first place, which is the FM transmitter. Fortunately my new car has an audio in jack, so I can use other players.
Thanks Nokia!

Tommi

for a workaround.
Please report the original bug to Nokia support, too!

Hi all,
I sent my complaint to Nokia as well. Conclusion: 7 months since the last comment, but still no fix. I received the following reply from the "Advanced Technical Care Team":
Bedankt voor het contacteren van Nokia Care.
Dit is reeds bekend bij onze R&D afdeling of en wanneer hier een oplossing voor beschikbaar gaat komen is ons momenteel niet meegedeeld. Ik zal uw probleem nu nogmaals doorgeven aan de verantwoordelijke afdeling.
Translated from Dutch:
Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.
This problem is already known by our R&D department. If and when there will be a solution for this problem is currently not told to us. I will submit your problem again to the applicable department.

I might ask you guys the question of what software do you use for tagging? I use mp3tag and the tagged song numbers have been carried over through 4 updates. Although of course I am using a different phone, some of you guys appear to be using different software?

This is getting ridicules. There are so many threads on this subject going back to God Knows when, certainly 2008, and not a single response from Nokia. I wish to play Books and Classical Music, and it is useless to do so unless the Track are in the right order. Come on Nokia, own up to the fact there is a problem and supply us with a workable solution.
