Re: N78 and geotags problem

Sounds like the phone might not be writing location EXIF data if it's got a network-based lock as opposed to GPS lock, which would explain why it works properly in strong signal areas. It's absolutely surreal, I use my N79's geotagging all the time and now I really, really don't want to update the software. Best report it here:

Re: N78 and geotags problem

No, I disabled the network and A-GPS functions. It has nothing to do with these settings. Sometimes they get tagges, sometimes hey don't

Any ideas? Can we do something against Nokia because it was the official software?

Re: N78 and geotags problem

Hi marcdk

Network and A-GPS provide a faster GPS fix.  Without them set on, it can sometimes take even tens of minutes to get a fix, compared with nearer 30 seconds when on.

When you capture an image, if there is no fix, then location information cannot be added to the exif data for the image.  Even after image capture, the camera app continues to check for a fix and when available, it will be added to the image.  Eventually (after a couple of minutes) if no fix is available, it will "give up" to save battery life.

So without network and A-GPS set on, it is much more likely that images will not be correctly geotagged.

It might be worth setting them back on again, to see if this helps.

Re: N78 and geotags problem

Ok, as someone said before: all images are perfectly tagged on the phone. If I click on "show on map" they are displayed 100% correctly on the nokia map software. If I try to tag them with text tags I can see the coordinates. This can be done in the picture viewer.

BUT when I send them to flickr or get them directly from the phone with the file system there is no EXTIF Tag!

AND most important: this wasn't a problem for me before the last firmware update for my N79! This is just an error with the firmware. Before version 30.029 ist worked perfectly! Why isn't Nokia releasing a hot fix?! Things like this will make people buy more iPhones! If something like this would happend to the iPhone a fix would be released asap!

Re: N78 and geotags problem

Nokia doesn't do "hot fixes", unfortunately. There may be another update in the future, but once the phone passes the first anniversary I think we'll be stuck with the firmware in whatever state Nokia leaves it.

But can I return it to nokia? I meant, it's an official firmware update which makes my phone useless for me.
