N78-3 Bug List

Re: N78-3 Bug List

N78 RM-235, Firmware 12.067.051.1

Have also found that the Alarm Clock has a bug, as mentioned by laby. This only seems to occur with alarms set to "Repeat Weekly". It allows you to select any day of the week when creating the alarm, but on saving, switches to the current day of the week. Most annoying!

Would also like to see a countdown timer added, I'm currently having to rely on less-than-efficient 3rd party apps.

Also noticed that when activating voice commands from the phone (push and hold right soft-key) the text label for both left and right soft-keys flashes up with the text "text_softkey" before jumping back to the home screen (with a mini zoom out if you have menu effects turned on) and then launching the voice command app. This means the voice command app is delayed by about a second, which is very annoying if you are a frequent user.

Okay so 12.046 is now out for the N78-3 but my biggest bugs remain:

My IMAP email will not do an automatic email update, it says it's "updating mailbox", makes one tiny bar of progress and quits.

My CK-7W continues to have drop outs with most calls on the N78 yet works perfectly with my 6120c and my wife's 6131. It makes a bluetooth car kit useless.

The navi-wheel is still so sensitive I frequently push the select button and discover I also managed to move the selection to the next item. Very annoying because now you have to wait for Maps (for example) to start and then quit it just to get back to the menu to choose the Music Player you were trying for.

I don't believe the N78 email client supports IMAP IDLE which is what you are probably looking for. Did you try using Auto Retrieval to get the email? It works fine for me when using GMail IMAP.

My biggest problem right now is the random reboots seem to still remain. They seem to be centered around the Messaging app. I had a heck of a time this weekend with my Yahoo POP account over WiFi where it would keep redownloading all my email as new every few hours and hard freezing hte phone in the process. I changed the connection to EDGE/3G and it seems fine so might be some bizzarre issue with the WiFi.

If this phone would stop randomly rebooting I'd be happy.

My biggest issue prior to 12.046 was fixed (voice dialing over bluetooth) and the FM transmitter/music player seems a lot more stable than before. I guess have to wait for the next update.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

No I don't care if it does IDLE or simply checks every 5-15 minutes. I believe my problem is that the auto retrieval setting requires that ALL mail be downloaded. In my case this is about 3000 messages. I've set the storage to be the memory card (8 gig) so there's certainly room.

Buy why oh why does my 6120c (Feature Pack 1) handle this with no troubles at all?

I think it's very interesting that the e66 (USA version coming out now) is actually a FP1 phone, as if the (more conservative?) eSeries team did not want the still buggy FP2 on it's phone.

As soon as the e66-2 shows up I'll have my n78 on ebay. If the e66 disappoints too I think I'll quit Symbian completely. Also want to see what T-mo's Android phone looks like in the meantime.

By the way Nokia service DID send me a completely new phone.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

New ones with v.12 firmware:

1) My phone suddenly started showing the "3G" icon instead of the usual antenna of Edge "E". I'm a USA T-Mo user, there's no 3G for me in the USA with an N78. Only a reboot solved this. Happened twice in the last 3 days.

2) So to fix #1, I go to change the Network Mode (Settings>Phone>Network) from "Dual" to "GSM" and my phone shows no icon at all, as if completely out of any network. A reboot does not cure it. Must power down and remove battery to fix.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

Stil searching for a carkit solution for my N78.
(see my other posts about non-pairing Parrots and CK-7W)

Went to the local MediaMarkt shop and asked if I could test if my N78 would work with a carkit radio.
The guy was very helpful and we tested a few radio's:
- Blaupunkt MP57 - does not pair
- JVC KD-BT22 - Does not pair
- Pioneer DEH-P600BT Did pair! Even could make a call through it but read on... Bought this radio and found that it does not automatically pair with the N78 when you switch on the radio. You have to start the pairing again from scratch (both the radio and the N78 listed the other device as paired) Most recent BT firmware was installed on the Radio. Brought back the Pioneer.
- Pioneer DEH-P700BT Not tested (It takes ages to find BT devices in the MediaMarkt, the list is sooo long) but this model and the FH-P80BT,
DEH-P800BT use the same firmware for Bluetooth.

The Pioneer looks promising.
I will mail Pioneer, you'll never know

Still searching for a BT radio for the N78...

Re: N78-3 Bug List

My CK-7W has no PAIRING issues, it has many dropouts when talking on it. Oddly my Jabra BT-350 and Moto S9 pair and work perfectly.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

Hi jamesbell, How old is your CK-7W?
It seems there are different hardware versions. The two CK-7W's I tried with two different N78's with the latest firmware were about 4 years old.

Thanks,
Willem

Re: N78-3 Bug List

Small addition to the 'Carradio test post above' (How do you edit posts??):
Some radios give a message that pairing was OK, then a message that pairing failed. The first one is then for Audio streaming, the failing one for Handsfree phone.
If you find a carkit which pairs, double check if it both for the audio streaming and Handfree carkit function.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

My CK-7W is at least 3 years old, maybe as much as 5, I can't remember. I never touched the firmware on it though (didn't know I could actually). Maybe a firmware update for it will fix it's issues with my N78?

Re: N78-3 Bug List

@Willem: this probably helps

Pioneer has posted an update, that also works for my E51!

Here you will find the update file and update instructions for the FH-P80BT, DEH-P800BT, DEH-P700BT and DEH-600BT.

This update enables above models to connect NOKIA Nseries with software after October/2007.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

Hi bpwats,
That was the update that was installed on the Pioneer radio. Hopefully another update will follow.
The N78 is really picky in Bluetooth.

In the mean time I wrote Parrot support, Pioneer support. No answers yet.

Cheers,
Willem

Re: N78-3 Bug List

One more: The voice dialing seems to work by itself on the phone, but not at all when connected to my CK-7W bluetooth car kit.

Re: N78-3 Bug List

Hi,
Although this is a bug list, I want to post one solution as well.
See my previous posts about my search for a working carkit for the N78.
Found one now!

Just installed the brand new Parrot MKi9100 and works fine.
The MKi9xxx series comes in three version:
- Without screen
- Small oled screen (I have this one MKi9100)
- Larger TFT screen

All share the same 'blue box' with the electronics and amplifier.

In my opinion the oled screen is the optimal version (for me):
- Oled should be better readable in sunlight (could not test, raining today...)
- screen is smaller, less visible from the outside. Although both screen versions are detachable to take them with you I want to leave it in the car.

Tested the following:
- Carkit(!), paring was simple.
- Audio streaming, Parrot remote control can control pause/play/next/previous/volume although you have to start the first song from the phone.
- Phonebook is transferred, works fine.

- Functions I did not test yet: It has line-in, USB, SD-card slot, Ipod connector.

Although not tested very long, this Parrot series seems a top product to me.
For the audio fanatics maybe not as it plays the audio streaming from the phone through its own amplifier, you can't have it all.

BTW: I tested the N78 with the Built-in Peugeot Car bluetooth option: Seems to work if you disable remote sim but only for outgoing calls. Incoming arrived on the handset only. The Peugeot built in BT is Parrot too (but older version unfortunately).

Have fun calling in the car.
