Re: N73 M Switching OFF Automatically

Is it switch off while using a mobile or switch off without doing anything in it. If it switch off by doing something then format your mobile. For that..

1. Backup your mobile's contacts, messages, notes, calender and bookmarks via Nokia PC Suite backup utility. Don't backup anything else like settings or user files etc.

2. Now backup your images, videos and music files using Windows Explorer.

3. Now format your memory card and switch off your mobile.

4. Now press and hold this 3 key "green call key, * and 3" together and switch on your mobile. Press and hold down that 3 button till country insertion dialogue appear. Insert required detail.

5. Now connect your mobile with PC and run Nokia PC Suite and wait for a minute. Now in PC Suite, click on Help - Reinstall PC Suite support. An installation message will appear in your mobile. Install everything and wait for a minute. Now restart your mobile.

6. Now restore all your backup using PC Suite and explorer.

This will solve your problem. Now install applications you like.

Good luck...

Please ignore Post007's advice, despite being told several times he is still misleading users.

what will it take for you to realise that a hard reset IS THE LAST RESORT. you always seem to suggest EVERYTIME for users to perform a hard reset. have you thought to ask what applications are installed that may appear to be conflicting with the phone, or for the user to look for a firmware upgrade?

I suggest that you search via Nokia Software Updater on your PC for a firmware update.

Adrianhughes try to read the user's question. He is telling that his mobile get autometically switch off so if he upgrade the firmware and while upgrading his mobile turn switch off then his mobile will gone dead.

don't always downgrade my post. Yous solution may corrupt the user's mobile. Read the users question first and then write something useful.

the user said two to three times a day. from my experience, i'm sure that it will still be possible to perform a firmware upgrade. after all, i had the same thing with my old 5610 and initial firmwares of my N78, and i still upgraded via NSU with no problems. now if it kept switching off say ten/twenty times, then i'd take exception and suggest otherwise.

but as i said, don't go for the hard reset first. it doesn't matter what you post, you always seem to post some kind of trash. and seriously, it's not my fault that you can't accept responsibility for your own actions, 99% of my posts have been quality, and where i have gone wrong, i accept with grace. you, however, seem to think you know better than everyone else on these boards. it's YOUR ADVICE that corrupts users mobiles most of the time. YOU are downgrading your posts because of your not thinking your advice through - giving wrong advice; senseless advice

hi eraianbanc. The best way to go about solving your issue would be to check for firmware updates. You can find out how to check for updates here. Backup your data using PC Suite, or from your phone itself (Tools -> Memory -> Backup Phone mem.), use Nokia Software Updater to update the software and restore the backup: either from PC Suite, or from your phone (Tools -> Memory -> Restore from card). While updating the software, make sure you have a stable internet connection & PC and a fully charged battery lest something should go wrong.

I would suggest that you install only trusted (signed) applications. Most often it's the third party apps downloaded from non-legitimate sources that make the device unstable. And also, be wary of installation files that you download from the internet or that your receive via bluetooth or IR.

The 3 finger reset is to be tried only as the last resort, as adrianhughes has rightly pointed out. Do not get carried away by misleading posts.

Let us know how the update went :smileyhappy:

Re: N73 M Switching OFF Automatically

The phone in not switching  OFF while in usage, but when i use to check often weather my phone is ON by pressing the joystick or Red end key, some times the display will go off and i need to swith it ON. And some times automatically it is switching OFF.

Is it recommended to format and  reinstall the OS again and then i do an update? or the update itself is enough??

Now a days the phones' performance is very very slow also. When a call is coming, it displays the caller name and rings after 2 or 3 seconds later. I can able to identify that by having a box coming in the are where the volume is displayed during a call, after 3 seconds the sceen will be showing the caller name and then rings. The caller will be hearing the gir.. gir.. sound for these 2 or 3 seconds.

I would recommend updating the firmware straight away. If your firmware is already the latest, then go for the soft reset (Type *#7370# - this will format your phone memory, so backup your data before you proceed).

For the sluggish performance, do you have any apps running in the background - other than Music Player? Briefly press and hold down the menu button to invoke the task manager, and see if you see any applications running. Contacts, Logs, Gmail App (in case you have it installed) etc. generally remain open in the background unless you close them explicitly. Quit all unnecessary apps. Switch to a lighter theme (preferably one that came with the phone). This would improve performance a bit.

Still if you feel it's damn slow, then try restoring factory settings (*#7780# unlock code is 12345 by default, unless you changed it).

If you are updating the firmware, then you can skip what's written above :smileyveryhappy:

Re: N73 M Switching OFF Automatically

Hi,

One of my friend also has these same problems. He told me that after updating the firmware also he got the same problems. And he adviced me that it is useless even if you update the firmware. That makes me afraid about updating the firmware. I havent updated it.

Erai.

Re: N73 M Switching OFF Automatically

I doubt if he got problems immediately after he updated the firmware, that is, before he restored his backup and installed some applications. I would strongly recommend updating the firmware because it improves the performance and stability; improved camera performance is very much noticeable.

After you update, while restoring the backup, do it one at a time. Contacts alone first, then, messages, etc. At any point, if you find issues, do a soft reset and restore the backup but skip the problem-causing item.

Good luck :smileyhappy:
