N70 uses different ring tone

I've noticed that even tho i've set up an mp3 as my ring tone, when i get calls it will use the nokia ring tone occasionally. The mp3 is stored on my mmc but is displayed when you've got the option to select a ringtone. Any ideas why.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

I have had the situation where even though items are listed, the phone has lost the connection to the MMC and thus will default to the Nokia tone stored in phone memory. This was on my original N70 that was returned as it was faulty.

If you want to be 100% of your ringtones and themes working then store them in the phone memory not the MMC. You can store your alternatives on the MMC and when you want to use them actively copy them to phone memory. Copy them back to the MMC when you stop actively using them.

I've not suffered any issues since getting my replacement N70 but as I have mentioned I keep my active ringtones and theme stored in phone memory and not on the MMC.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

I've tried what you said and move my mp3 to the phone memory and it still isn't working. i deleted the file from the mmc so it was just on the phone. Any more ideas because i'm sure it shouldn't be doing this. Thanks

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Hmm that does sound odd. Can you play the MP3 file normally from the gallery, or when previewing the ringtone before selecting?

Have you tried another arbitary MP3 as a ringtone just to determine if your phone is having a problem with a particular file or whether it has issue with all MP3 format sounds.

If you have the MP3 stored in phone memory and full access to it, I'm afraid I can't understand why your phone still defaults to the Nokia tune.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Hi,

I've got exactly the same problem with my N70 at the moment. It nearly always defaults back to the Nokia tune. I've tried adjusting all the profiles so they're all set to ringring but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Maybe these things are all teething problems with a new handset, but you'd think they have enough experience to get the basic things sorted before releasing a phone. I don't think they get very long on the test bed - that's the public's job!

Have had a few other problems with it too, but other than the orange homescreen, it's generally a good phone, so maybe the next software update will fix the glitches. Fingers crossed.

Hi Jimmer!

Wlecome to the Nokia Support Discussions!

Does this happen with every tone, or just ones you have put on the phone yourself?

Cheers

Maybe the MP3 is too big to play? What if you select a smaller MP3?

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Any MP3's cause the same problem. The ringring.mp3 file is one of the default ringtones which is pre-installed on the handset. I think it's a software fault.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

I tried with *.wav format and i got same problem. I think it's common problem in Nokia 70. Some friends did something to slove this problem but it's not an end solution, they restored their original phone settings and it runs again smoothly.
Is there any program fix this issue?
Either: I didn't hear same problem befor with one of other Nokia mobiles.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

My N70 (t-mobile) does the same thing and even plays the nokia ring tone even if i set it to Bustle.aac which is on the phone memory and not an MP3 and comes as standard! If i turn the phone off and on it seems to fix it temporarily but very temporarily! Another anoying thing is that it often plays the ringtone in a very slow and distorted fashion too! Luckily i have the phone on the Meeting profile and that manages to keep the Vibrate setting! i'm still quite anoyed to have neen sold what amounts to a faulty phone, beit a software bug or not!

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Hi Everyone!

If you would like to overcome this problem Nokia has released a patch for the N70.

This patch will cure the problem concerning ringtones not being used correctly.

The patch can be downloaded here: http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,77767,00.html.

Please note you will need a working installation of PC Suite to install this patch via a PC, or if you can get the file onto your phone it will install there also.

Enjoy!!

Cheers

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Well, the patch was a nice idea! All it seems to have done for me is install the default Nokia ringtone which I didn't have before (i'm assuming Vodafone remove it for some reason). Now instead of failing to ring as before, I always get the default Nokia tone. The only exception to this is the first few calls after a hard reset.

I'm getting the handset replaced today although not expecting that to make any difference!

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

I installed the patch and all seemed well for a bit! Then back to the Nokia ring tone, and now I can’t seem to fix it at all! How Can Nokia release a phone in this state? the Ringtone industry is massive and this phone is destined to be pretty popular. Its really a total embarrassment to Nokia. this is not acceptable at all.

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

Karim, what do you mean by "not being used correctly" ? I sue the software and set an mp3 or other built in rintone to be the ringtone i hear when the phone rings. How is that incorrect? If it was incorrect why would the phone let me do it? The fix does not work, if anything it is now worse!

Re: N70 uses different ring tone

I installed patch and tried with wav format of ring, one time that saved in mobile memory and another in MMC. Nothing changed, everytime it returns back to default boring ring.
Is it possible that Nokia doesn't know where is the problem or how to fix it?
I despaired .

despair away, you will find the .wav format is not supported in any nokia phone. the only phone with this support will be the N91 which is not out.

i think what karim was trying to say is, this patch should force the phone to use the mp3 correctly as a ringtone. i dont think anyone is implying that you have done anything incorrectly.

Err, my N70 supports .wav perfectly. I've even used it as a ringtone but now changed to a different MP3 one. The N70 should definitely work with .wav, bugs permitting. Never had a problem with mine but the number of posts regarding this seem worryingly high. I think I'll pass on the patch too. If it ain't broke and all that.
