Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Hello !

for information, I just gave to my vodaphone shop my N70 to have the firmware upgraded to 5.XXXX and it is free because my phone is still under warranty.
I bought it in july, I am on vodaphone and I am living in the Yeovil area (Somerset)
My firmware is V2.0539.1.2 (19-10-05) RM 84

I joigned this forum because I have also the same problem as everybody has : my phone freezes after 10mn connected to the GPS (Holox BT 321 + tom tom 5).

I should have my phone back on monday or tuesday. I ll get back to you guys to tell you if I saw an improvement...

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Same problem for me.

Lastest N70 firmware. Lastest TomTom Mobile update (5.202) and same disconnection problem.

When disconnects, I have to do a reset to defaults. It's annoying!.

Please, people with same problem, post a reply here. Doing this pehaps make Nokia Support stop to respond "It's first time we have knowledge about the problem" and start to make a solution for it.

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

I had probs for some time with N70 and TomTom and GPS.

Found the best advice is to :-
1 Keep POIs to a minimum.
2 Don't use it with a BT earpiece as well
3 Remove pairing with GPS unit. Run TT and allow it to find GPS from the GPS status menu if it hasn't found it by the time you get there. Do NOT enter the passcode ie 0000 if it asks for it. Just cancel, it will find the GPS on its own. Never pair them as per normal procedure. Once set like this it will find the GPS every time.

Hope this helps someone!

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

I had the same problem, but with route 66 software, not TomTom. Which just proves its the phones bluetooth connection, not the software.

I upgraded to the most recent firmware and things are working fine with the GPS. Yay.

However.... My headset drops after 10 minutes instead. (nokia HDW-3)
Just a shot in the dark, but it seems that the bluetooth is stable with the first thing you ever connect to the phone, but anything you attach after is unstable.
Bought N70, connected headset - stable. GPS connected later = unstable.
Upgraded firmware, connected GPS - stable, headset connected later = unstable!

I love my N70, but I'm getting annoyed. Am I foolish hoping for a new firmware upgrade and believing it will solve the problem?

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Ok Guys,

end of the work for me !!!

I did on my N70 (bought summer 2006) 2 things :
- Vodaphone upgraded the firmware to the latest version for free because phone still under warranty
- The tom tom version I bought on ebay has been upgraded by the seller. He kept the tom tom 5 software but added the OS of the "tom tom for PDA".

And I must say, I travelled through Europe last week with just a lost of bluetooth signal once everything 5hours. And, compared to the past, just going on the GPS preferences pages is enough to reestablish the bluetooth connection. Before I was obliged to switch of the phone every 10 mn !!!

So it works !!, finally...

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Hi all,

I am another unhappy N70 owner who has the same bluetooth issues with his GPS. My firmware is V3.0545.2.3 and my GPS is a Holox - Bt - 321.

First time I used it, it run without any issues. But I don't thnk I had any POI's installed.

Now I have loads, Speed cameras, Mc'D's, all sorts. So I am gonna try it without and slowly introduce, one be one to see how I get on.

I will keep te forum up to date with my fndings.

But I agree with what everyone here is saying, why should we comprimise? I noted that in the early pages of this forum, some people who work for Nokia were very defendant. But seem to have gone quiet? Obviously, the issue is with the N70, as it has more or less been proven the phone simply can't do what it is supposed to.

Why has Nokia not attempted to roll out a firmware that either resolves the bluetooth issue or a least acknowledge it's a known fault and nothing can be done?

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Early days yet and by far not a conclusiv test. But removed all the POI's, then reenabled just th speed cams and so far no GPS drop outs.

Still too early to tell, but it's a start.

Also meant to mention in previous post..

Many of you have commented that you have to re-start you phone to re-establish to GPS connection, once lost.

I found if you go into the GPS settings in TOMTOM and re-select the bluetooth device, it picks it up straight away.

Still a pain the a***, but it's better than restarting the whole phone!!

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

As I reported previously, I also found that the least POI files then the better it is.
Mine now works flawlessly but with modification to the system. I noticed that the programme worked OK without any extra POIs at all so I found a programme which would remove the existing POIs and allow me to replace them with ones of my own, e.g. speed cameras etc.
The prog creates a new copy of POI.dat which the TomTom programme sees as its own software and not an addon. It 'thinks' there are no addons at all and works OK.
The only drawback is that you must make use of the original POI icons; you can't define your own.

For the programme check out this site http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/poidat.html

Thanks for the tip Ken, I will give it a try.

Out of interest, has anyone else had any joy with this?

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

Had my first disconnection this morning.. still too early to tell, but considering how frequantly it was lossing signal before. Reducing the POI's seems to have improved the overall performance.

Have also noted, if you disable the POI, yet have the warning for it still on, it picks it up and this doesn't appear to be an issue!

Not yet tried the above solution of creating the POI.dat, hopefully don't need to!!

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

I added about 5 POI's the other evening and the next morning on the way to work the Gps was hanging and stuttering. Took the POI's out and everything back to normal. These were POI's from Landis. Have come to the conclusion that unless it is a genuine Tomtom POI it is better not to install it.

Re: N70 Bluetooth problems (tomtom and headsets)

I suggest you try PoiEdit

I have used this on TomTom Mobile 5 for a Windows Mobile PDA and on N70 and TTN6 on N80.

You will need to download the PoiEdit application, but there is a plethora of useful POI's ie supermarkets, petrol stations, car dealers, speed cameras etc etc which are all compatible with TomTom and other SatNav applications - not too sure about maps though... need to investigate that still.

You can also get POI's for other countries incase you fancy getting speed camera info for when you are on a driving holiday.

The POI's are also regularly updated, - so much so that I used to update speed cameras weekly - just to "stay ahead of the game" :smileywink:

I have used this without a single proble on 3 differrnt devices running different versions of TomTom.
