N5800 seizes up and then turns itself off - help!

Hello

I received my new N5800 yesterday and have been really pleased with it, until this morning when it started to go all wrong. When I am using it, on any application, it freezes up every now and again and then around 15-20 seconds later just turns itself off. It has done this so far 5-6 times before I just gave up.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there any fix apart from returning it?

Everything else seems to be working really well and I was happy to have joined the Nokia club until it started to happen!

Please help!!!

Nic

This is one of those minor instabilities that a reset cures most of the time, and it only occurs with new phones. ie., once you've done it you should no longer be bothered with the problem.

Go into the file manager and use the built-in backup system to back up everything but your settings (leaving out the settings is important).

Once that's done, issue a soft reset by "dialling" the number *#7370#

You will be prompted for a security code. The default on all Nokia phones is 12345, so that's what it'll be unless you've changed it.

The phone will then reformat itself and reboot with a clean slate to work with. You can then go back into the file manager and restore the backup you made previously.

Tip: The backup allows you to do daily or weekly backups automatically. Use this feature. It can save you pulling your hair out at a later date if something does go wrong.

grschinon,

Thanks very much for that - hopefully it will work, but I now have another small problem!

When prompted for the security code, I press 1 but it does not come up on the screen (despite key going red to signal I have pressed it). If I press the other numbers they just come up as letters, so I cannot type in 12345.

It seems that it is just a normal keypad for letters and not numbers.

Is there anything I can do?

Yes, you can do the same as you would for any area where you use the keypad for text/number input.

Either hold the key down for the digit to come up, or if you hold the '#' key down the keypad will go into "numerical" mode.
