Actually, that behavior is exactly what you'd see proximity sensor is constantly activated. This can happen in one of two ways:
1) You have a screen protector or other object stuck on the front of the phone on the sensor. I'm sure you would've eliminated this though.
2) The proximity sensor is broken.
If it's 1, get a better-designed screen protector (with a window for the sensor) or trim yours to fit, or clean off whatever got stuck on there.
Like I say, ou probably already eliminated this option.
If it's 2, the care point can deal with it.
