My n97 restarts itself every time I turn it on.

My n97 restarts itself every time I turn it on.

Every single time I restart my phone, it starts normally and asks for my password.

After about 30 seconds of using it, the screen freezes for 2 seconds and it restarts itself, but this time it does not ask for a password. It works normally after that point.

Any idea what is causing this to happen and how I can fix it? I have the latest software (got it today).

-Thanks

Do you have a memory card? Try removing it and see if that helps.

Maybe you should back up your contacts, messages etc and perform a soft reset dialling *#7370# sec.code 12345. This will clean your phonememory, and often clear out som glitches. If it keeps doing this afterwards, I would suggest a reinstall of the fw or a trip down to a Nokia care point for inspection. You can find it by using the "contact us" link on the top right on this site.

Re: My n97 restarts itself every time I turn it on.

Have you tried to hard reset your phone?

Try hard reset and get used to it if you want your phone to  be turned on.

Avoid turning off your N97 because you might never turn it on again..Unless you hard reset it.

So, practice hard-resetting or take your phone back where you bought it.

If you decide do get rid of your N97 smash it with hammer and burn pieces!

If you decide to sell it God will punish you ! Selling N97 to someone is a sin!

Imagine your problems inherited by some one else...

I am ironic after all I experienced with my N97.

Re: My n97 restarts itself every time I turn it on.

@carman58: First of all, I am very sorry for my irony concerning N97, but trust me, it is for reason. I can see how many posts you have, and I see how hard you try to help someone. Personally, I have tried all of  procedures you described for "getting N97 fixed", but nothing helped permanently. I know at least 5 guys who purchased N97 and we all have same issues. Not to mention bad support we have here.

Try to understand, I bought flagship device for great amount of money, and I thought it was the end of story. The best, universal, multipurpose gadget in our pockets! Look how many people have same problems. I do not think Nokia is able to collect and fix all faulty phones at this stage. They sold so many N97 devices, they earned  a lot of cash, and what now? Everybody have seen famous interview with Anssi Vanjoki. They know about issues, they are very aware of them but it is too late. I work in telecommunications industry and I know how hard is to collect 100 faulty devices your company produced after "bug" is found..Mr.. Vanjoki is economist and that is typical problem of modern society: economists stand before technicians and engineers!

Why do not we see an interview with Nokia's engineers so they can explain how they can fix million handsets.

Mr. Vanjoki explains something like "the process will be long but successful".

People who bought N97 did not want to buy device that will be "slow and successful".

Just to let you know, I have used E71 for year and half...Nokia did great job with this device. I can not even compare it to Blacberry  or i Phone when it comes to simplicity and reliability! E71 is more then gread device, and I am jealous when I see my brother using my ex E71.

Nokia produces great devices, that is for sure. It is natural that after all these years of success and millions of great devices Nokia launches bad device, isn't it? It is just bad time for making mistakes, market will not forgive this mistake, trust me.

My contribution to this forum is advice for the people who bought N97: try to replace the phone.

Imagine situation where you have to format your PC every time you delete some files by mistake! As "power user" it is not hard for me to deal with free  space on N97's C drive, actually, I do not mind it at all since I like to see what junk software produces, but I do not want to carry another phone in my back pocket so I can use it in the middle of some important job when my N97 dies.

No hard feelings, I would love if I could help someone in some other way...

Carman58, you do great job.
