If you want to get depressed, just spend an hour or so reading messages on this forum.
Complain, complaint, complaints ad infinitum. Problems, problems and very few solutions. (The so-called 'Solved' icons rarely point to answers that satisfy).
I myself am an unhappy N97 owner. My old cheap Motorola performed better - and never broke down.
So what's my point/question? On other forums for other gadgets, you usually get a few whose experience points us hapless consumers in the right direction. Where are they here? Where are the Nokia techies? Or even former Nokia techies who could blow the whistle?
I guess by now anyone tempted to help would be overwhelmed, drowned in the sea of problems.
You would have thought the cold hard statistics highlighted by these forums would wake up Mr Nokia himself.
Apparently Nokia is a place in Finland. Obviously now in a deep freeze.
Solved! Go to Solution.

After your 'Sage' comment and obvious internet and forum experiences I feel somewhat humbled whilst replying to this post, however if you could guide me to some of these nirvana like forums you speak of it would really be appreciated, somewhere where no-one complains and where all the solutions a neatley layed out for anyone to find without effort.
In case you don't have time to reply I will continue to use the User Search , Google, and my N97 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck

I see you exagerate as well as I do...
But to answer your question: I have found solutions for problems with my satnav, digital camera, e-book reader, freesat box and even how to cook the Christmas turkey.
Of course there are moans galore on every forum, but never have I come across one with so many unanswered messages.
Good luck with your N97 searches!

Hi. swipe /answer function only comes into effect when keys are locked by either slider or timer, it always works ok for me but I have auto lock disabled on my phone and always lock it manually. You can also unlock by sliding qwerty out, But if you persivear with swipe it does work quite well. A bit of research and effort makes the N97 a really great phone and you will find a lot of help on this forum, but there are many other sources of help. Hope you find what you need , and enjoy your phone.
Good Luck

I would have to agree. Seems like Nokia does very little to support their customer base and the amount of tech savy users is pretty thin compared to the new Android crowd. Go browse the Phandroid forums or even the Sprint forums. Sure you'll see some complaints (human nature) but overall I see a lot more problem then solution on other phone platforms compared to Nokia's.

Specifically with the N97 - no matter how tech savy you are most of the major issues cannot be fixed period, the kinda problems that stem from the tiny RAM and C: drive and a terrible OS that is Symbian v5.
With other phones, yeah there might be some issues, but normally they can be worked around or solved with some time and hacking / patching etc.
N97 is beyond help, and I think you'll see Nokia turn their back on it soon, as they know that they cannot fix it.

Thank you for that. Much appreciated info. I had gone through all phone settings but had not seen anything about swipe. I would definitely put a 'Solved' sign up, but the question was under a different thread.
It's great to get a solution. Now it's back to trying to get my Outlook contacts synching with the phone.

carman must be telling watcher "no we do give solutions to problem" by posting wrong thread. ![]()
Man i am kidding, just to get out of the same old N97 problem, Nokia not listening etc.,

I totally agree, Nokia screwed it up with the N97 (and E90 had its problems).
After 10 yrs, using all communicators I am leaving Nokia for good.
With all the gadgets a mobile phone should be stable, enable answering and talking properly and be reliable.
All the other stuff is extra.
So, with the N97, the basics don't work, the Nokia service is bad, Nokia communication is non existent or plain false.
So, Bye Bye Nokia for ever..
Hope another million users follow (reading the forums this is not unlikely).
Here comes HTC Nexus One or some other great phone.
