Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

I've got a large number of contacts(6000+) stored on my exchange account. When i try to sync my brand-new n97 with my contacts, either with mail for exchange or via pc sync, It seems to choke after syncing only 4000-4100 of them. Has anyone had experiance with syncing a large number of contacts with an n97?

Before you ask, i do not want to 'split' up my contact list. I was able to sucessfully work with this many contacts on Windows Mobile via ActiveSync, with my iPhone 2G via ActiveSync, and with a Blackberry Bold via BES. I really like my new n97, but i'll have to return it if it cannot handle my contacts.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

I've not had nearly that many.. but my phone struggled horrible with 500 contacts.. I don't think it was the number that was a problem but the free storage space.. it seemed to bloat, especially as many contacts had images associated with them. I thinned them out and removed my SMS/MMS messages synced since 2004 to free up a LOT of space (20meg or there abouts)

I'd be interested to know how much c: storage you have free before and after you tried to sync.. ( and then again if you deleted the contacts that did sync)

6000 is an awful lot of contacts.. but it makes sense in a corporate/exchange arena..

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

yep, it becomes a bit wacky after it has 4000 on it. But Phone Memory still has 48mb free when it gives up and says "Disk Full".

this is very disappointing, considering that this is the 'flagship' device.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

even within the c memory/phone memory there is a certain amount of memory allocation for messages, contacts and such if you hit or try to exceed the limit it will be a no go. and there is no way to store contacts on the memory card or on the e drive its either sim or c memory. i guess this is not really the good choice of a phone for you with this many contacts.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

not so sure, but it might not be an inherent problem of the N97 itself but rather the way active sync is being done with S60...

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

Even with the v2.0 firmware there still is a problem.  It isn't just an issue with activesync since with just the ovi suite and the data cable, the number of contacts will not exceed 4000 without an out of memory error.  Nokia support has all but told me that this is a bug with the phone.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I will there was a third party app that could store all of the contacts on the 32gb drive and solve this issue but there are no products that i can find that lets you dial and send e-mails from it which makes it quite useless.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

@rasmus - those 6000 contacts may not be personal contacts but business contacts. If you are a member of a large company with extensive connections, you may get to have a few thousand contacts being different people from other companies yours interact with. As such, this problem seems to be not a bug but a symbian quirk instead.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

I worked at particular three letter company with almost 400,000 employees - doesn't mean I need them all on my phone, just the few hundred I might actually need to contact.  The rest I would just lookup on an intranet site.

A phone with that may contacts is just not usable - don't care what anyone says.   Not to mention the potential security breach in the event of a phone loss.

Re: Maximum number of contacts - Nokia N97

@rasmus - I dont mean everybody on the company. ^_^. Anyway, I know of people who have around a 1000++ contacts in their phones. Their business is into shipping. Not all companies would need those amounts of contacts
