MMS problems with N8

Hello,

I have updated my N8 to Symbian Anna lately. Since I did it, I have couldn’t attach more than one picture into MMS. Using previous software I could attach at least two pics in one MMS, now when I am trying to attach the second picture, black screen shows and the message editor shuts down without saving anything. Does anyone have any idea, how to solve / fix this problem?? Thank's in advance!!

It's just something else Nokia has broken with the "update".

If you keep your fingers crossed maybe someday Nokia will actually get the N8 working properly, but I seriously doubt it.

Re: MMS problems with N8

I don't think this is a phone problem but rather that the phone complies with the 300kB maximum message size recommendation in order to avoid problems with service providers' legacy WAP gateways. So there are  two choices, either the phone sends messages greater than 300kB and they will not be handled by some legacy WAP gateways or else the message is limited to the 300kB recommendation when created on the phone and it will not strike that delivery problem through the transporting service providers..

In the end, I can create messages with multiple images as long as the above is taken into consideration. But if the first image loaded is greater than 300kB then one cannot then load another and the phone warns so, as correctly in my view on a quality image producing phone, it resizes the first image loaded to fit into the 300kB not leaving room for subsequent ones.

It may be if one loads a first image of say 150kB so doesn't need resizing and then try to load one of >300kB that the phone will resize the second one down to fit in the remaining space of circa 150kB but I have never tried that. I either just resize the collection of images to be sent so as the collection is less than 300kB and have no problem if doing so, or if I want to maintain the image quality I just send them in separate messages (here we generally get big MMS message allowances so doing that is not a problem.).

Hope that helps.

John

Re: MMS problems with N8

Nope.

The 300kb limit is not the problem here.
You can set the mms image size in message settings to be small (around 50kb) or large (around 180kb) but no matter what setting is selected the mms editor shuts down when trying to add the second image.

My phone too was fine before the anna update, have been able to add multiple images to my messages no probs, but since updating i can only add one.

This is clearly a bug with the update as the phone gives no messages pertaining to message size limits or any error message whatsoever, it just hangs when adding the second image and then returns to the main messaging menu, losing any text that has been typed or any images that have been added. I have tried changing the mms creation method to both 'guided' and 'free' and neither solve this issue.

It is something that needs to be addressed as it limits die hard nokia user's like me to having to send multiple mms's just to get a couple of images to family and friends. Hugely inconvenient and expensive on our end.

If anyone does find a solution please let us know, as i get the feeling that this thread will have more posters in the coming months.

Well you can "Nope" as much as you like but that will not change the fact that, as I said, it works just as I described for me after the Anna update. I can load and send more than one image with no problem.

So you have some problem of your own on your phone or maybe it is a carrier issue.

Re: MMS problems with N8

Hello,
I had the same problem I solved by deleting in the list of installed programs, the application messanging (by Nokia).
Once the application is uninstalled reboot the phone without opening time between posts.

Best regards

[ Edited ]

After speaking with nokia customer care (who were just as useless as ever) i have now hard resetted my phone, re-installed the Anna update 2 times, and refused to have my service provider send me new data settings. Nokia care kept telling me to call my service provider! How bloody frustrating!

Fortunately, there are N8 users around who are more resourceful and willing to contribute then Nokia themselves and i can confirm that the solution to this problem is indeed to uninstall the nokia app 'messaging' from the application manager, then to reboot the phone as soon as the uninstall is done. When the phone reboots, everything within messaging appears the same but the dreaded 'new slide bug' is gone.

Thankyou to the MikeyLife for contributing this working solution to an exceptionally annoying issue.

@ catholic:

Thankyou for allowing me to 'Nope' all i like, as it turns out i was right......you were wrong. If you have the good fortune not to have encountered this problem and your phone is working fine then what are you doing in this thread! Go away.

Re: MMS problems with N8

I am pleased to hear that you have found the problem on your phone RingtoneNazi just as I suggested that you might.

I am also happy to tell you that I do not act on directives from foolish and angry children to "go away" as you have demanded. So I am afraid you will have to put up with me around here for some time to come as there are plenty of others here who are much more pleasant in their manner and much more grown up than you are.
