Subject says it all really - I know the N97 comes with the Quickoffice viewers out of the box, but is the upgrade to a version which can edit Office documents available right now, or is it still in development? This is a deal-breaker for me - I'm moving to an N97 from a Palm Treo, and I need Word and Excel editing on the device.
Many thanks in advance,
S.

Quickoffice Premier 6 is compatible with the 5800 and it has the same OS as the N97.
Contact the makers of quick office for official confirmation about N97 support.

Thank you for that.
Are you sure that the 5800 supports editing? If you go to the QuickOffice site and select the 5800 as your device, it reports that QuickOffice 6 Premier isn't available for your device - also there is an article in the Knowledge Base stating that the editing upgrade for the 5800 isn't yet available. This is dated December 2008 - has this upgrade now been made available?
Thanks,
Simon

Much respect to psychomania, but I agree with spl23.
I check the quickoffice site once a week for that much awaited editing update for my 5800 and it simply is not there yet.
If on the front page you go to "Learn More" about Quick OfficePremier 6 and thejn click "Learn Moare about this Product" at the bottom....on the next page you can "ChooseYour Device or Platform". Thereyou will see that the 5800 is not supported.

I logged a help ticket with Quickoffice - they have just responded.
There is no editing upgrade for the N97 yet - it is in development, but they can't give any estimate for when it will be available.
Cancel one N97 preorder... ;-(

I am pretty sure it can edit. I just don't like the user interface personally.

OK.....so, I followed my own link and saw that I could get OfficeSuite for only 20 euros. So, I figured I would give this inexpensive option a chance. I purchased it and it onlycost me US$20 and not 20 euros (a savings of over US$7 over the 20 euro price!).
I think I still prefer QuickOffice interface. But since I don't know what the edit capabilities of QuickOffice are - since they don't have a version for me and there is NO WORD on when they will - I can say that OfficeSuite is very usable and not a waste at all. For only $20, you get the ability to create new docs (word, excel, etc) and edit existing docs. The edit interface is difficult, but on a small screen, can you expect better?

I also have the OfficeSuite and I must say that although it does everything I need it to, I do prefer the interface of Quickoffice. I was very dissapointed when I tried to use Quickoffice when I first got my N97 and found that I could not even open a file without it saying I must purchase a licence. All in all i am very happy with the phone but I think i should have done more research first, as i was quite looking forward to using Quickoffice on this phone.
Please can anyone shout the word as soon as they have any news on an arrival date of Quickoffice for N97.
Cheers

I've found a rather annoying bug in OfficeSuite PowerPoint viewer....if you are in Manual slideshow, after you have navigated past the first slide, then you can only thereafter navigate forward and back. No other key (keyboard or touchscreen) will respond to exit the slideshow mode.
The only way that I've found is to KILL the application view the Menu key (press and hold the menu key until a list of all tasks comes up. Single-touch select the task, then touch-and-hold the task until the pop-over menu giving the choices of Open/Exit comes up. Select Exit.
I've notified the manufacturer of this bug.
