I just bought N97 Mini from Newegg. The strange thing is it gets hot very quickly(usually in 5 minutes) when in use, making me uncomfortable to use any of its functions for too long. I wonder if it is normal for a smartphone to get hot so fast? Is it battery's problem?

It's normal for handsets to get warm during use but they shouldn't get uncomfortably hot.

I have two N97 minis and they get red hot when charging and shut down, or they go flat really fast and then wont charge at all. Looked on a couple of forums and looks like it is a common problem. Not sure whether it's the battery or the phone, as no one has had an answer on any of the forums yet.

If it's getting really hot when charging and isn't retaining a charge, then the battery is probably faulty. I'd advise against using the handset until the battery is replaced.

I suggest to update your  firmware first to solve some electrical things in your phone .... And good luck
