Am I happy with N97? Yes.
Am I happy with the latest v20 firmware? Mixed.
I like the extra kinetic scrolling feature of the new firmware. Make so much sense.
I am mixed with the new music player. The search is definitely better in terms of keyboard responsiveness. Previously pressing the "back" button go back to the track listing, which was useful when I wish to jump to a particular track to play on the same album. Now, I have to go through the music library again. Also, shouldn't they name "back" as "hide" to be consistent with the naming convention? Because pressing "back" actually hides the player.
I had some phone memory problem. Now seems to have gone away.
My phone stops hanging prior to v20 upgrade. Now it hangs more often. Strange!
Some of my existing application stops to work properly on this new upgrade. Not sure whose responsibility this is.
There is still no Nokia Internet Radio. I am still heartbroken.
Besides all of the above, I don't notice anything special on this new firmware upgrade.

I agree, battery life is getting worse, was never great but now the phone will not even last a day if you use it just a bit... almost like the battery is at the end of it's life.
and 3 months old it shouldn't be.

Very please with my N97
Especially after V20. Kinetic scrolling, improved battery life and usability, not forgetting the Music player now displaying ablum art next to the album. Sheer quality.
Only thing i would like is something similar to "cover flow" to really set it off.

Totally agree with you fitgaz, the N97 is a different beast after installing v20 and resetting. I really like the phone now.
I've seen an app out there that adds something like coverflow but not tried it myself. It's still in development so not available as a separate product yet.

yeah i seen it but it's still under test.
I meant as part of the firmware not as an actual app

Which really begs the question, what is it anyone really likes about the n97 other than fw update releases?
Looks like you are determined to put a negative slant on this thread because of your own experiences.
I liked the N97 under previous firmwares, didn't have the problems that many others suffered from. Under v20 I really like it as it's now faster, smoother and some of the new tweaks and features are very welcome.
Simple as that.

Agreed.
Since i update i have more c: memory and the phone as a whole is more pleasurable to use. No bugs what so ever (except when syncing through media player, but thats down to my laptop)
Sone very welcome changes made by Nokia.

Glad the update went smoothly for you in the end!
The camera and photo's app are also much improved under v20.

Had a few problems getting the nokia software onto my computer but yeah the update went as smooth as silk.

I hvae also found the in-built email client much improved too.

How weird... I'd agree it's a completely different beast, but not in a good way!
I've done so many hard resets and soft resets since V20 I'm in danger of wearing out the flash NAND life!
I guess we all use different functions of the phone, for me the music player was very important, and whilst V12 couldn't display album art, V20 looses the volume control (but the album art looks pretty), guess which one I'd prefer?!!! I guess that's the iPhone mentality sneaking in... Ooooh, pretty!
I would seriously like to go back to V12! Sure it had some quirks, but nothing that actually stopped me doing anything.

Loses the volume control? On the phone or the headset remote?
It works fine for me on the phone but not tried it on the remote as it's dumped in a drawer somewhere.

I'm happy with mine.
I have had some of the issue sthat have been reported. The side lock switch doesn't bother me in the slightest. There is a slight scratch on the lens plastic but I leave the cover open now so it won't get any worse.
But for what I use it for mainly, which is phone calls, texting, email and web browsing it's a great bit of kit.
Stuck on v11 of the firmware is a bit frustrating but only because I am a geek and like to do these updates asap.

Everything!
The control ont he side of the phone does nothing but move the visual on screen volume up and down. I can also drag that up and down using the touch screen, and press the mute button... But none of it changes the playback volume.
Plug in the headset, none of the controls work on that.
Switch to FM radio and everything works.
Use File mgr to browse to an mp3 file and play it from there and all the controls work too.
I went through a big investigation last night, step by step starting with a complete hard reset, and involving half a dozen soft resets trying to make some logic of the problem. I put it in it's own thread.
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&th
Basically it looks like the Music player (for some reason) screws up it's library database. This can happen with just one album, or when it's lulled you into a false sense of security and it's taken 4 fine, so you dump the rest over and then it screws it up.
When the library database (or whatever it creates) is screwed up, the volume control stops working.

That is just plain weird. Hope you manage to find a fix and I hope that it doesn't happen to me!
Is there any chance that a third party app could be causing the problem? Have you tried the usual of disabling anything that runs in the background?

I just did a hard reset, formatted mass storage, hard reset again, reinstall 2.00.19, hard reset again...
Added my wifi point
Imported my vcf contacts from the microSD (where a full copy of my contacts now exists 24/7).
Clicked OVI store... You need an upgrade... Click upgrade
It starts the browser... "Unable to download nnnnnnn.sisx"...
Tried via my wifi point and carrier data, same error.
Needless to say the browser works fine.
Soft reset...
No change. Still "unable to download...."
And because of Nokia's insistence that stuff on OVI can only be downloaded by the phone, I'm stuck. (Although tempted to fake the Http agent header in firefox to see if I can trick it into letting me download the sisx files to the PC).
I have emailed Nokia support about the music issue, they got my long step my step log I put in the other thread. I think they'll get another about the unable to download issue too.
V11 had quirks, V12 had the same quirks but they both worked! V20 for me just does not work!
I'm not even going to bother trying any music, because I know what is going to happen...
I'll say no more except the N95 is on charge...

Yes I am, and have been since I recieved it, I must be really lucky because hardly any probs at all ! Have been following discussions for a couple of months for advice and tips, oh and news as well. Managed to get V2.0 software with research on web and a bit of fiddling (Vodafone Handset) and am really pleased with it.
Just one point though that may not be relevant to this thread. I have a work colleague, who was impressed with my phone and decided to upgrade to N97 with Vodafone. He changed contract and ordered phone, which did not arrive, even thogh he paid £5 next day courier service. After complaining he was promised phone today, and it arrived. However what he recieved was N97 mini ! After a call to Vodafone he was told they no longer supply N97 due to software issues, the phone not being able to handle the memory and the number of faulty handsets being returned. As a happy user, my only fear is that my Flagship handset may become obsolete before Xmas ! Anyone else come accross this ?
Also snaptu, Opera mini5 beta and the new msn application are great on N97.
I am a new member to discussions, and will continue to follow closely.
