After speaking with other N97 users on several forums this fault does not effect all N97s and if the fault was inherent on all N97s, why would they replace my defective one.
Would you clarify where you have read that ALL N97s suffer from this problem

There is no fix for this yet. Your new one will have the same issue still. lamn!
__________________________________________________
You stated that my new N97 WILL have the same problem and that there is no fix for this, yet the next poster says he has had his fixed.
You said that my new N97 will have the same problem as if every one has the same problem which of course they don't. You even say MANY people on this board have this issue, why didn't you say ALL people if you think my phone will arrive with the same problem. Some people have a problem with the lens cover but some do not, you tend to only hear about those that do.
People who do not have a problem with their speakerphone are not likely to come to this site and claim "I do not have a problem with my speakerphone", they will only tell you about the problems that they DO have.
I am sure that a majority of N97s do not suffer from this problem, so quite why you are making this spurious statement is beyond me.
So next time you make a claim then you need to substantiate it instead of making it up based on your own bad luck.
Perhaps my new phone will come with the same problem but then again perhaps it will not. But even if it does I will not be claiming that all N97s have defective speakerphones.
It ain't rocket science.

Well as the original poster of this thread. I also believe that this is on all N97's.
I have spoken to 4 friends of mine who don't visit the forums and they all have N97's with the same issue. I am 110% certain its affecting all phones, but not sure what the cause is, software or hardware. I am thinking hardware.
And to those that keep saying its a loudspeaker problem, its NOT. THe loudspeaker is fine. It's got to do with talking at the SAME TIME. If you try to talk at the SAME TIME as someone else is speaking when they are put by yourself onto loudspeaker, they will NOT HEAR YOUR WORDS. Likewise, if you start speaking ont he loudspeaker and they try to interrupt you for example before you have finished what you are saying, you will not hear ONE THING they are saying.
Just thought I would reclarify the issue.

Over on the Nokiausers forum, only a few people have reported the problem so I am not so sure that it is effecting all N97s
The problem with mine was only one way so it didn't matter who was talking over who, it was always the other person that could not hear me,I was always able to hear the other person. I think it was my speaker cutting out my microphone. It would appear that not all N97s suffer in the same way.

bla bla bla is what i say to people who look at the forums as a chance to have the bigger balls in a non verbal conversation. So i said ALL. Here ill say it again.. ALL! what are you going to do next bash me for my less than perfect English? Who the F cares if this is what I said. Besides this issue I read also on this site is that it hardware related. This means most likely ALL machines built out before the issue "could have been fixed" are ALL bad. How many thousands of units is that? Thats sure sounds liek a big ALL to me. Is it possible that ALL batches from ALL production sites have the same bad issue? Yes! Again i refer to the scratched lense issue. This issue is present on phones from ALL the manufacturing locations. Maybe "yours" doesnt have a scratch... but anyone i have talked to with a 97 has this issue or did not notice it till i pointed it out. But hay maybe you baby your phone ALL the time and keep it ALL the time in that little sock it came with.
@tuzz - I agree with you that not everyone comes to this site to **bleep** and moan and complain about others facts or lack there off. Most users just go into the care centers or nothing at ALL.
One other point.... i will assume that a very high (90+) percent of phone user are fine with ear cancer and will never use the speaker phone or at least only momentarily and never know of this issue. Maybe this is why its not talked about more??
One other thing. Im ALL done with this topic. I don't even have a 97 anymore!

I am not sure if its a problem common to all N97s or not Ihave had 2 of them and both had the same problem.
I have been invovled in electronics for a long time and one of my "rules of thumb" is if 2 devices exhibit the same problem its inherent in all devices of the same batch-model-type or whatever else is common to the 2 tested devices.
So without having any proof that it was so I assumed it was the case from my experiance.
So long story short, to find out I went to a mate I have, who works in the industry, he says the only people who have not got the problem with the N97 dont use speakerphone.
With this information I go back to where I brought it and say "whats the point of sending the phone back when the new one will have the same problem" and they said "yeah we know but we hope it will be fixed in the hew firmware upgrade 20xxx due in 6 days" That was 4 days ago.
"Yeah we know" was said in a way that meant "jessssuus chriiiiist I wish we had never sold this phone heres another complaint about the bloody speakerphone" and "Its coming in 6 days" like they were counting down the seconds in desperation that this problem would go away.
Anyway I have to say I love the phone apart from this one really (for me) annoying issue, oh yeah and the maps and the stupid answer set up, oooh and the voice dial doesnt work and ..... oh well what would life be without adversity. everything would be perfect and we would be bored **bleep**less.

my problem lies with the fact that the stupid phone can pick up your voice until the slide is open up... and then you talk loudly into the phone... lousy.... have to really resort to BT...
my w800 got no such problem....thats for sure....

Well the 6 days I was promised when the firmware update will be here has well and truly come and gone.
Obviously the company who sold me the phone now wants to get rid of me by telling me bullcrap
(cant say **bleep** as it gets **bleeped-out** by the pure souls at nokia who dont mind selling you **bleep** but dont like you saying **bleep**)
So dear members of the nokia flock it looks like the promised land of version 20xxx firmware, that magical firmware that will make the meek and useless N97 imortal, is like the ledgendary cheque in the mail - still coming, maybe.
I had an interesting experiance the other day where the voice dial stopped working, not that it worked in the first place as far as voice recognition was concerned. But it stopped even giving me the option to speak.
Took the battery out a couple of times and fiddled around but nothing.
But then by the grace of the great god nokia it just started to work again Hellaluah nokia is good nokia is great I promise my fouth born child to great god nokia (I already commited the first 3 to other gods).
Thankyou for your merciful grace in getting my voice dialler going by divine intervention as now i can voice dial and it still doesnt work like before.
Now, great and powerful god nokia, if you could bless me by again by fixing my **bleep**speakerphone problem . . . . . I will be eternally grateful.

Hi Guys,
I'm from Malaysia & I do have a same loudspeaker issue with my new N97 which is 1 week old. The call is pretty clear if I not use my speaker phone. Any solution so far?

I had the new V2 firmware installed today. And grrrr - the speakerphone problem is NOT solved!
Can please someone from Nokia say something about this issue?

Dear loyal nokia N97 believers, I have had enough.
My callers cant hear me when I use speakerphone.
My GPS is sending me to Afganistan or when I only need to go 4 streets away.
My camera lens is scatched so I get a huge flare when I use the flash.
I tried to switch to video and had to turn the phone off and missed my grand daughters entire performance.
To make a phone call involves 47 steps.
Every time I get a call I have a panic attack trying to answer it before they hang up.
The voice dialler only works if you speak Chinese in a soundproof room.
Every time I take it out of my pocket its asking me to go online for some unknown reason and I spend 5 minutes cancelling all the apps that are open just to make a phone call.
The Vodaphone people while sympathetic tell me all N97 have these issues if you want them fixed you have the send the phone away for 15 working days.
No good getting a new one because it will have the same faults and the only people who get it fixed are those that complain.
In short the GPS does not work, the camera does not work, the phone is unusable and the software is at the clunky alpha testing stage. So why am I upset?
I have spent 700 hours in the last 5 months upgrading, fiddiling around and resisting the temptation to throw this phone at a very hard surface.
So its time for drastic action. I went to my solicitor and he referred me to the TIO (Telephone industry ombudsman in Australia)
The TIO opened a case and I rang Vodaphone who have agreed to cancel my contract. Happy days I can now go back to my old N95 that works perfectly until Nokia get there act together and bring out a touch phone that works, hopefully thats the N900.
