Re: IS N95 NORMAL EDITION A GOOD PHONE?

It's a great phone. Really the differences between the 8Gb version and the standard one are mostly cosmetic. You can get an 8Gb SDHC memory card for the standard N95 so the only benefit for the 8Gb version is the (Slightly!) larger screen and the increased RAM which doesn't make much of a difference to 99% of people.

The latest v20.x firmware have made many improvements to the phone and made it work much more reliably and effieciently.

The only issue I have at the moment (Which affects the 8Gb version as well so it's a moot point as far as you are concerned) is that Nokia have still not come back to their senses and returned the "Track as you move" feature for the GPS that they removed with a previous release of the firmware. Quite why they thought removing this most basic of basic GPS features would make more people buy a navigation license is beyond me but it's something I feel needs to be addressed.

Other than that small problem I think whichever version you get your going to be very impressed with your new device. :smileywink:

Oh bother I did not realise that the track as you move is being removed from the new version - I dropped my nearly two year old N95 yesterday and am expecting a new one this evening. It will be the newest packhed version so will keep an eye out to see what happens with the GPS tracking.

The N95 is excellent and continues to be the best phone I have tried (I've tried Sony, Motorola and a few others that do not cut the mustard). It truely does combine a phone and a fileofax. I use the functions as follows
- Phone
- Calandar (syncing with two different Outlook environments) - It would be good if it could sync with Notes though
- Contacts and to do lists
- GPS
- Internet

An improvement I would like is to be able to map a drive on my network on the phone to allow me to brows the network files from the phone.

Also it would be good if there was a way to fully control the phone from a computer. Clearing the phone without a screen has been rather painstaking as you cannot delete the calandar entries etc through the PC Suite software.

Hey Sheela,

If I had the option of buying simfree phones at AP prices, I would buy every new Noki as soon as it comes out.

N95, great phone. Just make sure it has V20 firmware or you know how upgrade it to V20 firmware afterwards. N85 8gb has bigger screen, different colour (black) and 8gb built in harddrive. Other than that, more or less same as standard N95. At AP prices, I'd go for one of each depending on what I am wearing that day :smileyhappy:

Umm, N95 was released less than a year ago :smileytongue:

N95 a good phone?

As a phone or a Multimedia computer?, or for what purpose?

As a music phone= Yes, but N81 or N91 is better.

As a video phone= Yes, but the 8GB version is better

As a GPS enabled device= Yes, but so is the N82 and others.

As a phone for voice calls and texting= Yes, but there are a lot of better phones for voice/sms than the N95.

For battery stamina= NO, the 8GB version is much better.

As a camera phone= No, The N82 is better.

640K Should be enough for everybody
